Practising my fingerpicking with a song I wrote a long time ago, but only just translated to classical guitar. One day I'll record a full and comprehensive version. A couple of slips, but then I'm not the best guitarist.

Track one is as a two piece
Track two as a four piece
Track three as a five piece (!)

-dog latin you are a rad guitarist! one of the first things i learned playing is that nobody is as hardass as classical guitarists, so even a 'pretty good' one can knock yr avg rock guitarist (like, say, me) on his ass.

-jordan i listened to yr record all day at work today and it is like all my favorite college listening habits put into one album i <3 it

-billstevejim yr band makes me want to skateboard and that is 1000% a compliment

i'm pretty amped about my next little set of songs. i'm trying to keep myself to my self-imposed deadline and have up for the streaming by tuesday, but i really think this is my best batch of songs yet, lil gaslighty at points and lil ryan adams at points and i'm finally using something resembling a real mic even if i'm still stuck with audacity on a netbook.

i realize that my fake country singer songwriter thing is like the least exciting thing in this thread but u know. yall are my people. i share my things with my people

Found a new home for rap beat depository:

One of the songs uses cowbells pitched down to sound like steel drums (probably the only drum sounds I've actually recorded myself).

Thanks Hoos, you're too kind! I can't normally play music like that, it just came from making the tune more and more complicated over the course of three years...

know this isn't really meant for this but I haven't been able to record anything seriously in a while given that I don't have soundproofing at the new location and roomie sits home all night blasting surround sound tv....from a karaoke night a while back, horrible quality but you can hear notes...starts at like the 1:03 mark.

owenf, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 19:59 (thirteen years ago) link

here's a song i've been working on for a couple of weeks. I was procrastinating having to do vocals so I ended up adding tons of layers (for me) and then mixing it got complicated and I'm not sure the whole thing really coheres but it's kind of cool:

really love the intro, i wanted it to keep that half-time, minimal drum feel the whole time (but i would).

bows don't kill people, arrows do (Jordan), Friday, 4 February 2011 17:51 (thirteen years ago) link

maybe i'll do a half-time minimal remix. don't know if i have enough drum track production skills to make it work but there are definitely plenty of other elements there for me to work with.

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 4 February 2011 18:07 (thirteen years ago) link

I like the Middle Eastern feel of the intro.

philippe is standing on it (MaresNest), Thursday, 10 February 2011 10:24 (thirteen years ago) link

Okay, so I finally had a listen to the Constant Light record on my way to work this morning and it's excellent! Great Job guys, bringing the 'wub' in a supremely elegant fashion. I'm looking forward to hearing what else is planned for this year.

Have to say, it felt very much that I should really be listening to it on a late night ride through the streets of Tokyo, as opposed to a grey, drizzly commute through the suburbs of NW London!

I was tickled to hear a specific keyboard sound that I'm certain I've only heard on OMD records, like the end of 'Georgia' for instance (if you know that song).

Would love, love to do a remix if you are interested in that sort of thing.
