Okay, McCartney doing Lennon's "Give Peace a Chance" was a nice twist, but "A Day in the Life" sounded absolutely awful.

Not to sound like a cynic, but that is the one solo Lennon song Paul gets royalties for.

maybe he bought a bar band and they live behind his house.

They've been his recording/touring band for like ten years now. They're all seasoned session dudes, drummer is the son of some well-used studio bassist, keyboard player has played with everyone in the world, etc.

yeah his facelifted guitar player is terrible
been a while since I've seen anyone get three musical spots on the show, but it's been a while since I've watched a full SNL. I am one who thinks the only times the show has been completely funny were the eddie murphy years/the crystal short eberson years and the early dana carvey years and everything since has been really spotty, but I thought this episode was pretty good, better than others I've watched (I think this is the first one this season i've watched though). the cast seems better.
― akm, Sunday, 12 December 2010 14:55 (thirteen years ago) link
also I thought mccartney sounded alright, I mean he is 100 years old and this was pretty raw, I'm sure some sweetening goes on during his stadium shows.

xps He actually got FOUR, which I think is the first time that's ever happened. Both U2 and Phoenix have gotten three performances in the last decade.

Pretty dire episode imo. 'They all kiss and lick each other for 7 minutes' is NOT writing. Can't believe this is a recurring thing. This week actually made me long for a Kristen Wiig sketch. Wonder if she was sick or something.
McCartney, and especially the band he "bought" (lol Scott) sounded pretty bad.
I don't find Stefon nearly as funny as y'all do (or as Hader finds himself, apparently.)
― He stayed true to what he is. Now he murders deer! (Dan Peterson), Monday, 13 December 2010 17:58 (thirteen years ago) link
Uh, Wiig was the mom in the Vogelchek sketch. But yeah, those are pretty tiresome at this point. Stefon is fantastic, fuiud.
― one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 13 December 2010 18:00 (thirteen years ago) link
Pretty tired fo the kissing bit, but it seems like thats become a Paul Rudd recurring thing.
What I did love to my surprise was the game show, since I usually despite the game show as an SNL skit frame. This one however was extremely funny. Kenan was great.
I also liked the cat food ad. It was subtle and simple.
― dan selzer, Monday, 13 December 2010 18:26 (thirteen years ago) link
the cabaret thing was dire
the endless announcements before the christmas pageant sketch was extra shitty too
the sex advice show with the bigot host could have been ok but was not. is that a recurring bit?
― goole, Monday, 13 December 2010 18:32 (thirteen years ago) link
so weird how it was a bad episode but i kinda remember it fondly two days later? the cat food thing was hilarious
― goole, Monday, 13 December 2010 18:33 (thirteen years ago) link
The sex-advice show is a recurring bit, but it was not changed significantly -- or at all -- from the first time they tried it.
― Son of Sisyphus of Reaganing (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Monday, 13 December 2010 18:34 (thirteen years ago) link
Yeah, pretty much all of the recurring skits this week were awful. There attempt at "look, Jay Pharoah can do original characters that aren't impressions too!" failed horribly.

WAHT That was a tour de force for Sudeikis!
― Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Monday, 13 December 2010 19:02 (thirteen years ago) link
dunno if my broadcast was different, but the first second or two got cut off and you couldn't tell if rudd was a character who was trying out for something, or, later it turned out he was supposed to be paul rudd. sudeikis is funny always but it didn't make sense as a situation
― goole, Monday, 13 December 2010 19:07 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah, i was excited to see Jay not do an impression, but thought the whole skit fell flat. Kenan killed it though.
The cabaret thing is a recurring skit, usually the guest is doing a PSA and Sudeikas is rocking the boom mic like an asshole. I liked this twist.
― dan selzer, Monday, 13 December 2010 23:37 (thirteen years ago) link
Someone told me that Kenan Thompson isn't FB friends with Kel Mitchell, which is just really discouraging and sad and says a lot about fickle human nature imo.
I imagined they'd still be best buds, writing on each other's wall all the time and sharing jokes, but no.

There was some media forum where someone asked Kenan if there's a K&K reunion in the works, and he simply said "No. Next question?"

Like its def not like Paul McCartney showing up in "Red Hooded Sweatshirt" or whatev
