holy shit guys i still dont have the patience to get a character past, say, level 20something
how much am i missing out on
― kanellos (gbx), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 16:51 (thirteen years ago) link
game doesn't start until 85
― Mordy, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 16:54 (thirteen years ago) link
for real?
i've kinda heard that suggested (it's "endgame" right?), but never really bought it
― kanellos (gbx), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 16:55 (thirteen years ago) link
^^^ I never believed this until I started actually seriously doing endgame dungeons
Even now, it's less "game doesn't start" and more "game becomes subtly different"
― BO (DJP), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 16:55 (thirteen years ago) link
Well, idk about 85 since I haven't played Cataclysm, but it was certainly true for me for levels 70 (Kara was really a game unto itself) and 80 (heroic dungeons and Naxx)
― Mordy, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 16:57 (thirteen years ago) link
huh. well then.
― kanellos (gbx), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 16:58 (thirteen years ago) link
I re-activated last night after not having played for a fairly long time. I have no idea how to play this anymore, which I am pretty excited about.
― get off my lawn (rockapads), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 17:06 (thirteen years ago) link
Things def change at max level. I enjoy levelling more than endgame tbh; I usually turn to the large scale PVP (Wintergrasp, AV), since I don't like hanging out in dungeons with random ppl (I'm unguilded; the one time I was in a guild, that's when the habit got really bad - scheduling my life so I could be in on a Friday to run instances, rather than just playing a bit when I happened to be in).
― portrait of velleity (woof), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 17:12 (thirteen years ago) link
(it's like the crack-habit-management gets a lot harder when you're letting down other people by not smoking all the crack you said you would)
― portrait of velleity (woof), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 17:14 (thirteen years ago) link
woof otm
― Mordy, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 17:29 (thirteen years ago) link
and that's why i can't play WoW anymore
is it even possible to solo up to the endgame?
― kanellos (gbx), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 17:32 (thirteen years ago) link
(i know there's hella resources out there for WoW, i'm trying to avoid them, i don't want to turn into....well, you guys ;)
― kanellos (gbx), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 17:33 (thirteen years ago) link
Yeah, unless you have friends to level up with you (and who promise only to play at the exact times that you're playing) you're going to pretty much be solo leveling up to the endgame
― Mordy, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 17:33 (thirteen years ago) link
so this is crack
― kanellos (gbx), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 19:49 (thirteen years ago) link
and apparently if i want access to all the stuff that cataclysm offers i have to buy all the prior expansions (which is nearly $100!). that seems....unlikely.
― kanellos (gbx), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 19:50 (thirteen years ago) link
Did they stop the big sale? As of two weeks ago, the original game + both xpacs was $50.
― Indolence Mission (DJP), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 19:57 (thirteen years ago) link
and yes, it is crack
― Indolence Mission (DJP), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 19:58 (thirteen years ago) link
oh god, i want the crack. plz tell me Cataclysm is awful.

let me answer that with this:

I reactivated and decided to play with my enh shaman. Been having fun so far, though I don't really care for the storyline of this x-pac.

this actually reminds me, I keep meaning to go back through the Horde side of this at some point
from what I can tell, you guys got dicked over majorly (death of Caine, Garrosh's ascendancy, Sylvanis becoming more overtly evil)
― Indolence Mission (DJP), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 22:26 (thirteen years ago) link
It's not awful but I'm finding it annoying. Like they've taken stuff that was fun in small doses in Wrath and pushed it way too far - linear questing, 'epic' plot lines w/ cinematics, tons of phasing. They did narrative well in Wrath; I think the praise led them astray.
Also, a bit too much vehicle stuff. The novelty wore off in Wrath. Don't want to be a Naga with 4 abilities.
Also swimming.
It'll prob be a lot better once I've levelled.
I'm ok in principle with Blizz shaking up the comfy cosy honourable Horde, but yeah, it's sort of sad. Era of inclusive & managerial New Horde soft politics shifting into an aggressive, divisive & militarised government. I blame the Goblin financiers.
(New Orgrimmar great though, prob our biggest gain)
― portrait of velleity (woof), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 14:43 (thirteen years ago) link
The new instances are bad-ass, although I do swear that if I have to go through Halls of Origination one more time...
Also if you are playing a caster class and are not a healer, STOP ROLLING ON SPIRIT GEAR. IT NO LONGER GIVES YOU EXTRA BONUSES AND I ACTUALLY NEED IT TO REPLACE QUEST GREENS. GOD.
― Indolence Mission (DJP), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 14:52 (thirteen years ago) link
so basically as a hunter (lol) i shouldn't roll on anything that isn't agility/stamina, right? focus doesn't get recharged by any attributes as far as i can tell
― kanellos (gbx), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 16:34 (thirteen years ago) link
Haste makes you regen focus faster but I don't know that stacking it while levelling will work very well; you have to give up too much of the other stats to make it worthwhile.
Generally speaking, agility with hit/haste/crit is what you're looking for.

every time i think i'm wasting my life i always tell myself "well at least you're not playing wow" and i feel a little betterpouring out a lil likker for you guyz

y'all
a dude in my guild has suckered me into being on his arena team
argh, I'm doomed
― Indolence Mission (DJP), Friday, 11 February 2011 14:33 (thirteen years ago) link
also how come I didn't extol the virtues of Uldum
Uldum is bad-ass; I am still hoping they make the Katamari nod into a daily quest. (ditto the Joust nod in Hyjal)
― Indolence Mission (DJP), Friday, 11 February 2011 14:38 (thirteen years ago) link
so my interest has tapered a bit now that i'm busy again...kinda stalled mid 60s
also: got a quest that involves going on a raid, and i just looked into what that entails and was sorta o_O
― ullr saves (gbx), Friday, 11 February 2011 15:08 (thirteen years ago) link
Hahaha Arena. Not enough panic and aggression in raids? Good luck anyhow.
Just hit 85 the other day, & yeah Uldum the's zone where it started getting actual fun, after the swimathon & all those talking rocks (both of those grew on me towards the end – loved the stonemother). Uldum a blast from the off though – a lot of time for the cat men at war. They should stick a few more dailies in there - it'd be a nice zone to spend time in once I'm through Twilight H.

& i want a camel, obvs

are you playing your priest in arena, dan? it is a good time to be disc. not that I have been playing again >_>
― bnw, Friday, 11 February 2011 15:39 (thirteen years ago) link
I am playing my priest, yes; I am waffling between disc and shadow, though (we seem to do better when I'm shadow even though the "right" thing to do is disc, plus we've also started raiding ATM so I haven't fully committed myself to dropping the $$$ necessary to constantly repsec between PVP and PVE builds; I should just switch to one of my alts and make him PVP-centric).
Ramakhan was the first rep grind I did, precisely so I could get the camel mount. I was the first person in my guild to get one. (The only Cata rep I don't have exalted now is Baradin Hold... o_O)
― Indolence Mission (DJP), Friday, 11 February 2011 15:48 (thirteen years ago) link
Therazane is hilarious, yeah; I kind of forgot her daughter was the last boss in Mauradon until she started bitching about how much she hated us!
― Indolence Mission (DJP), Friday, 11 February 2011 15:50 (thirteen years ago) link
I've been tossing around the idea of gearing up a PVP healer and doing rated BGs which I hear are a blast when done with the same team. My friend tells me that it's the closest a video game has gotten to organized sports. I can't decide between shaman and druid. I'd really prefer a priest, but my priest alt is stuck somewhere in Outland and I just don't think I have it in me to level through all that shit again.
― rockapads, Friday, 11 February 2011 17:04 (thirteen years ago) link
The dungeon finder is so your friend re: Outland; it flew by on my druid and I didn't wasn't even wearing heirlooms.
― CAN YOU GULP ANY LOUDER PISS WOMAN (DJP), Friday, 11 February 2011 17:10 (thirteen years ago) link
BTW, my biggest heirloom-related lol comes from a former coworker who reused the cloth robe and shoulders he bought for his priest on his fury warrior. He even tanked some BC instances wearing them, as fury. He didn't know why people kept yelling at him.
― CAN YOU GULP ANY LOUDER PISS WOMAN (DJP), Friday, 11 February 2011 17:12 (thirteen years ago) link
lol that is hilarious.
great tip, too, I didn't think of the fact that as a healer the queues would probably be fairly quick, too, even for lower level dungeons.
― rockapads, Friday, 11 February 2011 17:16 (thirteen years ago) link
btw, I have heirloom gear for every armor class. how sad is that?
once i figured out that 'dungeons' even existed, i started leveling hella fast. also i was pretty rich when i got to outland so i got a flying mount pretty much immediately, which makes soloing go a lot faster.
― ullr saves (gbx), Friday, 11 February 2011 17:18 (thirteen years ago) link
Dungeon queues seem quick anyway if you quest while waiting; I'm leveling as a boomkin and didn't start noticing exorbitantly long queue times until I hit WotLK.
btw I had the best group the other day; prot pally, resto shaman and THREE BOOMKINS. Most fun Nexus/Utgarde Keep runs EVER.
― CAN YOU GULP ANY LOUDER PISS WOMAN (DJP), Friday, 11 February 2011 17:20 (thirteen years ago) link
only way it could have been better would have been a bear tank and a resto druid
Five man druid runs are good. Bear, Cat, 2x boomkin and a tree.

I just reinstalled after being away from the game for about a year - wanted to see what Cataclysm is about. I'm not loving it. It kinda feels like the 'new' old world is missing a lot of connective tissue? All the new changes just feel underexplained and sudden to me - maybe they want you to read the books to get the full ~lore experience~ now. Of course, I never played any of the Lich King content*, so maybe that would've given it context. Also, all my old guildbros have left to play Rift, which I assume is the latest flavor of the month distraction - I'm sure they'll be back, but it's annoyyyying. The new talent changes seem to have not been well received by most of the community.
*I quit during the BC era, right before Black Temple rolled out, and bequeathed my 70 druid to a guildie, and when I came back some time after Lich King debuted I had to make a new account - and I got bored and quit again after a month or two, so I've missed all the high end content since BC

I kinda agree with this. I played a Worgen for 15 levels just to see what the starting area would be like, and it felt like an assembly line to me. I didn't even find it particularly immersive.

my account expires in 2 days. I was having second thoughts about letting it expire since I started playing my mage a few days ago and found it fun, but I couldn't play for more than an hour tonight so yeah. Once I again, I bid WoW farewell. I think the thing that keeps sucking me back is that I keep remembering places as I would a real place, and feel the urge to go back. Good thing about Cataclysm is that they destroyed most of the old places so hopefully this time I'll just leave it be.
