Cant believe witchita lineman polled so high. That song is so utterly boring and horrible.

Frank Lloyd Webber (Trayce), Saturday, 4 December 2010 02:44 (thirteen years ago) link

Those are my feelings on "Marquee Moon".

Señor Mexico (Johnny Fever), Saturday, 4 December 2010 02:45 (thirteen years ago) link

Can't believe ILM pollers had shit taste.

Can't believe other human beings liked different things to me.

I like the Witchita Lineman cover I posted
I'll check my e-mail _Rudipherous_

I never understood why people get so excited about funnel cake.

_Rudipherous_, Saturday, 4 December 2010 03:07 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh so this is a live Fairouz version on the grooveshark mix. I had the original studio/soundtrack version in mind, but this sounds good. Good song, great singer. Fairly safe in that case.

_Rudipherous_, Saturday, 4 December 2010 03:09 (thirteen years ago) link

Captain Lorax you also forgot Darcy Clay - Jesus I was Evil off that list.

Hinklepicker, Saturday, 4 December 2010 03:21 (thirteen years ago) link

"Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart" seems familiar but in a really remote way. I don't know if I've heard it before or not.

_Rudipherous_, Saturday, 4 December 2010 03:32 (thirteen years ago) link

1. No Smokey Robinson? You are all mad.
2. Really?

Fruitless and Pansy Free (Dr. Joseph A. Ofalt), Saturday, 4 December 2010 04:09 (thirteen years ago) link

You know, there really are a lot of good songs on this list. Thank you.

Fruitless and Pansy Free (Dr. Joseph A. Ofalt), Saturday, 4 December 2010 04:38 (thirteen years ago) link

The noms list is also very handy.
I thank you also.

Hinklepicker, Saturday, 4 December 2010 04:54 (thirteen years ago) link

CaptainLorax, check your email again. I accidentally sent you the wrong Fairouz song. Sorry to be a pain in the ass.

_Rudipherous_, Saturday, 4 December 2010 05:44 (thirteen years ago) link

That cardiacs song seemed interesting. And then he started singing. Dear god.

Dear Trayce,

Welcome to almost my verbatim experience with The Cardiacs.

xoxoxo, DJP

Got to about 3:16 when the guitar noodling started. Sorry.

babel on (pandemic), Saturday, 4 December 2010 08:40 (thirteen years ago) link

Listening to The Captain's grooveshark playlist right now (btw thank you). And you know what? 'Moon In June' is good. But does it really need to be 19 mins long? I think I may be missing the point however.

babel on (pandemic), Saturday, 4 December 2010 08:49 (thirteen years ago) link

it tttttotally does need to be 19 minutes long! how else are you gonna have a sublime jazz-rock wig-out followed by an escapist psych-drone finale hewn from the very cosmos

Cap.Obv (acoleuthic), Saturday, 4 December 2010 09:03 (thirteen years ago) link

Great work guys. Happier with the results of this poll than most others, Still a few wtf placings (Love Action at 970, Do You Believe In Magic 1283, What Become of the Brokenhearted at 1451) but overall pretty good.

Incidentally if the Sandy Denny/Fairport versions of Who Knows Where The Time Goes are combined that gets 1200 points and slides in at 108.

Go for a 50's poll and a 1900-1949 poll separately otherwise the first half of the century will be stiffed by the rock 'n' roll juggernaut.

State Attorney Foxhart Cubycheck (Billy Dods), Saturday, 4 December 2010 09:05 (thirteen years ago) link

Did the Spotify playlist for the Top 125 get updated?

Indeed it did: http://bit.ly/fdTfYf

scotstvo, Saturday, 4 December 2010 11:08 (thirteen years ago) link

I had no idea "Uptown Top Ranking" was so popular and ting

PEAVEY Ó))) (Ówen P.), Saturday, 4 December 2010 11:35 (thirteen years ago) link

A bit disappointed by "Don't You Want Me"'s showing. I thought there were lots of people into that song here. Not that #285 is bad in a poll of more than 2000, but I seriously expected it to be in the Top 100.

You're Twistin' My Melody Man! (Geir Hongro), Saturday, 4 December 2010 12:57 (thirteen years ago) link

X-Post: "Uptown Top Ranking" is an awesome and catchy reggae tune, but ranking it as reggae's greatest moment may be a bit over the top.

You're Twistin' My Melody Man! (Geir Hongro), Saturday, 4 December 2010 12:58 (thirteen years ago) link

gonna stick my neck out and guess that a lot of the "Uptown Top Ranking" votes weren't from hardcore Reggae heads. which is irrelevant cos it's a total classic.

absinthe of malithe (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 4 December 2010 13:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Excellent work dudes. I have never really got the Beach Boys but yay for I Feel Love and Ghost Town placing so high.

Matt DC, Saturday, 4 December 2010 13:08 (thirteen years ago) link

Also has anyone been updating a Spotify playlist for all this?

Matt DC, Saturday, 4 December 2010 13:09 (thirteen years ago) link

See about 10 posts up.

Add best reggae song to the polls list.

would vote in a reggae poll

captayn cronch (crüt), Saturday, 4 December 2010 13:41 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh, it seems I gave my top marks to the winning song. Truly, I am Mister Consensus.

mike t-diva, Saturday, 4 December 2010 14:34 (thirteen years ago) link

Wow. kind of surprised at Crimson and Clover not being in the top 650!

Fetchboy, Saturday, 4 December 2010 16:08 (thirteen years ago) link

I would nominate tracks and vote pure quality in a reggae poll. The best would be to extend it to dancehall and dub.

Krampus Interruptus (NickB), Saturday, 4 December 2010 18:12 (thirteen years ago) link

Actually, is there a thread for awesome reggae youtubes somewhere? Really enjoyed watching videos of 'Double Barrel' and 'Poison Flour' and 'Jungle Lion' and whatnot for this poll.

Krampus Interruptus (NickB), Saturday, 4 December 2010 18:20 (thirteen years ago) link

awesome reggae youtubes

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Saturday, 4 December 2010 18:39 (thirteen years ago) link

I guess, if "Ghost Town" counts as reggae, "Uptown Top Ranking" isn't the highest ranking reggae entry here.

You're Twistin' My Melody Man! (Geir Hongro), Saturday, 4 December 2010 18:43 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah, but they're sort of on the fringe, no?

purblind snowcock splattered (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 4 December 2010 20:03 (thirteen years ago) link

Top 125 is here: http://bit.ly/fdTfYf

I'll do the 1-votes if there's an appetite for it?

scotstvo, Saturday, 4 December 2010 20:15 (thirteen years ago) link

chhers!

purblind snowcock splattered (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 4 December 2010 20:30 (thirteen years ago) link

Putting the 1-voters together anyway, though there are substantial gaps cos of tracks not being on Spotify. Here is what's available anyway: http://bit.ly/hivelX (though it is a work in progress).

scotstvo, Saturday, 4 December 2010 20:41 (thirteen years ago) link

Btw. Any poll that is supposed to include pre-rock standards and does not include this one is completely without any sort of credibility:

scotstvo, I don't know how Spotify works, but if the Umm Kulthum song is missing and it can be uploaded, I can supply it. But maybe it doesn't work that way.
