Okay, I'm listening to Gimme Shelter now, I'd never heard it before. I don't really get why this should be among the two best songs of the 20th century, it isn't half as good as "Sympathy for the Devil". Just a basic 60s blues rock jam, there are tons like it.

I never get the extreme love for I Feel Love (and I don't remember hearing that song at all in the 70s or 80s or pretty much any other time), but I'm not saying bad things about it so no need to attack.

was just watching a Soul Train last night, turned it on in the middle of them boogeying to "I Feel Love". Sensory overload among the song, the dances, the outfits, the hairstyles... (side note: saw the most awesome outfit ever created sported by Don Cornelius on another episode. Sateen pastel outfit with a cape, which I thought was just mildly awesome, til the camera panned down a lil and you could observe that he was wearing sateen SHORTS with it and knee high white boots.)

Soul Train was one of America's greatest achievements

and i just listened to "wichita lineman" for the first time in ages. i like it a LOT less than i thought i did. great lyrics, nice melancholy vibe, but it just gets overwhelmingly treacly about halfway through. i get where it's coming from, but can't really feel it. i think it is a song voted for by people who spend a lot of time listening to grizzly bear. would love to have seen "tarzan boy"* or "tubular bells" place instead. or "jet boy jet girl" ffs.

* how in god's name did i forget about this song/video?!? kill me now for leaving it off my ballot please.
