Yay for "I Put a Spell on You" and "Israelites", this is the kinda of variety this poll needs. Both are the kind of tunes that made me immediately realize they're awesome on the first listening, as soon as the singing started.
And "Good Times" is fine as well, though I too had to omit it in favour "Lost in Music" when it came to cutting my initial shortlist into 100 songs. Hopefully "Lost in Music" is still to come, as it is pretty much the best "classic" disco (i.e. non-electronic disco) tune of all time.

(x-post)
Yeah, I think "Blue Monday" would've been enough NO in the top 100. Three songs is kinda too much.
― Tuomas, Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:35 (thirteen years ago) link
I love LOVE New Order, but agree completely.
― Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:36 (thirteen years ago) link
oh there was a third? I haven't been following super closely
― Yeezy reupholstered my pussy (DJP), Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:36 (thirteen years ago) link
Yeah, "Ceremony" showed up yesterday.
Wow I just assumed Blue Monday would be it for them. I actually had three New Order songs on my list but none of them have appeared. I'm sure that's it now but Joy Division are surely going to do quite well later on.
― Kitchen Person, Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:37 (thirteen years ago) link
oh god don't remind me
― gospermaban sim gishel (acoleuthic), Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:37 (thirteen years ago) link
hmm
I would have expected "Bizarre Love Triangle" (assuming it was nominated, of course)
― Yeezy reupholstered my pussy (DJP), Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:38 (thirteen years ago) link
Good to see Chic in, I voted for a different one of theirs which I doubt will show up (plus one of their productions which probably won't either).

ILM I get that you like New Order, but please.

you forgot "for the love of god." if it's any consolation, i'm sure we've got like six joy division tracks to go.
and some depeche mode.

And here's yet another song from my top 25 to show up today. Great melody, great lyrics, basically the perfect pop-rock hit. Nice list today so far.
― justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:40 (thirteen years ago) link
Didn't vote for any New Order, I don't really have a clear favourite song of theirs. 'Bizarre Love Triangle' or 'Vanishing Point' maybe. Not one of these three.
― Gavin in Leeds, Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:40 (thirteen years ago) link
btw this will only be redeemed if the cure show up soon
gonna sleep this off i think
― gospermaban sim gishel (acoleuthic), Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:41 (thirteen years ago) link
there are other DM songs I like a lot more ("Stripped", "Never Let Me Down Again", "Shame", "Shake The Disease", "Waiting For The Night", "Freelove", "Tora! Tora! Tora!", "Fly on the Windscreen", "Precious", etc etc etc etc) but as far as group consensus picks go, I am finally at the point where I can live with it being "Enjoy The Silence"

x post What about Electronic? Did anyone nominate any Revenge songs? The Other two?
― Kitchen Person, Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:42 (thirteen years ago) link
"Behind the Wheel" will always be my go-to DM song, but I don't think it got nominated.
― Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:43 (thirteen years ago) link
can't wait for Freebass to sweep the 21st century poll top ten
― captayn cronch (crüt), Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:43 (thirteen years ago) link
haha as if Revenge would have had a chance
(I mean, I like the "Gun World Porn" EP and "Slave", but let's get real for a second; best of the decade? Not a chance in hell.)
― Yeezy reupholstered my pussy (DJP), Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:43 (thirteen years ago) link
Enjoy the Silence is a very well structured song. Some of the production touches are a little misguided but there isn't a note out of place.
― skip, Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:43 (thirteen years ago) link
I wouldn't say they're misguided so much as of their time.
― captayn cronch (crüt), Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:45 (thirteen years ago) link
i kind of expect to hear from one more new order song
― mookieproof, Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:45 (thirteen years ago) link
which one, "Regret"?
― Yeezy reupholstered my pussy (DJP), Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:47 (thirteen years ago) link
The most times one artist is represented in the top 125 is four. Maybe it's New Order, maybe it isn't.
― Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:47 (thirteen years ago) link
feel retrospectively stupid for not nominating any bernard herrmann. taxi driver theme, at least, maybe psycho. and i seriously meant to get neil hefti's batman theme in at the last minute, but spaced. regrets, always...
― phish in your sleazebag (contenderizer), Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:47 (thirteen years ago) link
number 41...A Day In The Life xp
― gospermaban sim gishel (acoleuthic), Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:48 (thirteen years ago) link
I'm going to feel kind of bad if anymore New Order appears, I had one of their songs in my top five.

regret aye
― mookieproof, Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:52 (thirteen years ago) link
Really surprised this is higher than Kiss, I thought When Doves Cry would be the only other song of his with a chance.
― Kitchen Person, Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:53 (thirteen years ago) link
So it is Prince then.
Never understood why people rate "Little Red Corvette" so high, it's one of the most boring tunes on 1999. Just a basic rocker with nothing particularly great about it.
― Tuomas, Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:55 (thirteen years ago) link
I mean, 1999 has tunes that are catchier ("1999", "Let's Pretend We're Married"), more danceable (most of them), and freakier ("Lady Cab Driver"), what's special about this one?
― Tuomas, Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:57 (thirteen years ago) link
it's fucking great, for one
― Yeezy reupholstered my pussy (DJP), Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:57 (thirteen years ago) link
for two: "And the ride was so smooth/YOU MUST BE A LIMOUSINE"

It's the best song he ever did, for three
― kornrulez6969, Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:58 (thirteen years ago) link
well let's not go crazy
― Yeezy reupholstered my pussy (DJP), Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:59 (thirteen years ago) link
Being danceable is probably third in line when I isolating the qualities in a Prince song.
― Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 2 December 2010 20:00 (thirteen years ago) link
I=I'm
Looks like Tuomas just doesn't like rock music
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 2 December 2010 20:01 (thirteen years ago) link
It doesn't matter in what order you rate the qualities, my point is that even though "Little Red Corvette" is not bad, the album it's on has other tunes that beat it no matter what yardstick you're using. And if you look at Prince's whole career, it certainly ain't his second best tune of them all.
― Tuomas, Thursday, 2 December 2010 20:02 (thirteen years ago) link
show us your yardstick
wait, i think you already have
― mookieproof, Thursday, 2 December 2010 20:03 (thirteen years ago) link
Well, that's true. I'd probably rate HALF of the songs on Sign O The Times higher than Little Red Corvette, but that in no way diminshes what a tasty piece of pop songwriting it is.
― Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 2 December 2010 20:05 (thirteen years ago) link
40. PUBLIC ENEMY "Bring the Noise" (1987) [1,659 points, 16 votes]

yeah, i never really got "little red corvette", aside from being O_O at the lyrics as a kid. i mean, it's obviously a catchy song, but far from a personal favorite. would take the likes of "when doves cry", "erotic city", "when you were mine", "controversy", "kiss", "sexuality", even "raspberry beret" or "sign o' the times" over it.
― phish in your sleazebag (contenderizer), Thursday, 2 December 2010 20:05 (thirteen years ago) link
