I'd completely forgotten about that video!

seandalai, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 18:46 (thirteen years ago) link

feels like radiohead's stock has really fallen over the past few years but maybe that's just ilx contrarianism and/or critics fatigue

ciderpress, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 18:47 (thirteen years ago) link

if creep places further down i will murder you all

Chester, Your Majesty (kelpolaris), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 18:47 (thirteen years ago) link

Well, they used to be the Biggest Band in the World of All Time, or something like that. OK Computer is actually my least favourite album of theirs after the first one.

seandalai, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 18:48 (thirteen years ago) link

xpost

but give you a sensual back massage beforehand

Chester, Your Majesty (kelpolaris), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 18:48 (thirteen years ago) link

Was Creep nominated?

seandalai, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 18:48 (thirteen years ago) link

What I really really want is for Marlena Shaw and Peggy Lee to show up eventually. It will break my heart if they dont.

I guess this is the highest ranked Radiohead song in the poll?

Moka, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 18:49 (thirteen years ago) link

I guess that's the only Curtis Mayfield song that we'll get as well. I forgot to vote any Curtis but my symbolic vote goes to this one:

Paranoid Android is still an affecting track for me. 14 year old nostalgia helps too.

skip, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 18:52 (thirteen years ago) link

When I go back to '90s Radiohead now, it's almost always The Bends album. "Let Down" is about the only track on OK Computer I still care for.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 18:54 (thirteen years ago) link

it really is one of the most cinematic songs in existence. you can't listen to it without giving it your full attention and imagination. that said, i find it boring after 4 listenings.

Chester, Your Majesty (kelpolaris), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 18:54 (thirteen years ago) link

59. KATE BUSH "Cloudbusting" (1985) [1,427 points, 13 votes]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRHA9W-zExQ

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 18:54 (thirteen years ago) link

Yesterday I was going to predict 'hyperballad' and 'cloudbusting' appearing today but my internet went down. Will Kate Bush outnumber kraftwerk and perhaps even the beatles in this poll?

Moka, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 18:56 (thirteen years ago) link

I kind of overdid it with OK Computer back when it was released and so participated in the backlash afterwards, but after going a good 6 or 7 years without listening to it, I've begun to appreciate it again lately. Paranoid Android is an awesome song really and by far the best on that album. I don't think I voted for it though.

peter in montreal, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 18:58 (thirteen years ago) link

this'd be my favorite song on the list thus far

ciderpress, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 18:59 (thirteen years ago) link

kate probably has, and will probably have, the best music videos on the list as well imo

Chester, Your Majesty (kelpolaris), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:01 (thirteen years ago) link

Kate Bush is like the UK Springsteen.

kornrulez6969, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:04 (thirteen years ago) link

wtf

ciderpress, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Voted for 4 Kate tracks, 2 more than anyone else. One I expect to see poll, the other probably not.

State Attorney Foxhart Cubycheck (Billy Dods), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:05 (thirteen years ago) link

I thought it was Billy Bragg. xps

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:05 (thirteen years ago) link

Wouldn't be in my top 5 Kate Bush songs, but still happy to see it here.

seandalai, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:05 (thirteen years ago) link

Would be in my top 5 songs from Hounds Of Love

Satantango! (Matt #2), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:08 (thirteen years ago) link

57. (TIE) DR. DRE ft. SNOOP DOGG "Nuthin' But a 'G' Thang" (1992) [1,447 points, 14 votes]

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:09 (thirteen years ago) link

Ok here's another easy prediction: The Beach Boys will outnumber and outrank the Beatles songs in this poll.

Moka, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:11 (thirteen years ago) link

This is the last tie, btw. It's clear sailing all the way from 56 down to 1.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:11 (thirteen years ago) link

Love the opening 30 secs of this, and the rest really. 1,2,3 and to the 4

Hey Christian, Poulsen Sugar On Me (pandemic), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:11 (thirteen years ago) link

These guys show up in some poll like every single day!

clemenza, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:13 (thirteen years ago) link

Look how YOUNG Snoop is, damn. He's just a baby!

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:13 (thirteen years ago) link

Excellent song all around, and appears almost exactly where I voted for it (#53).

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:14 (thirteen years ago) link

really the last iconic rap tune. ok maybe that one by 50c is a contender.

Chester, Your Majesty (kelpolaris), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:14 (thirteen years ago) link

no iconic rap tunes between 1992 and 2003??

skip, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:15 (thirteen years ago) link

"California Love" sure was.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:15 (thirteen years ago) link

I would argue "The Real Slim Shady" was also iconic.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:16 (thirteen years ago) link

Sugarhill Gang, people.

Moka, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:16 (thirteen years ago) link

Between 1992 and 2003?!

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:17 (thirteen years ago) link

"Regulate" too

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:17 (thirteen years ago) link

"Gangsta's Paradise" too, for better or worse.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:18 (thirteen years ago) link

"get low"

hipity-hopity muzik ftw! (Ioannis), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:18 (thirteen years ago) link

"stay fly"

hipity-hopity muzik ftw! (Ioannis), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:19 (thirteen years ago) link

hypnotize?

ciderpress, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:19 (thirteen years ago) link

Usher/Lil Jon's "Yeah!" was in the top 10 for like 100 weeks or something.

for the next throbbing minutes (corey), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:20 (thirteen years ago) link

those are all great but name one you can play to an 8 year old and find that they recognize that song immediately

Chester, Your Majesty (kelpolaris), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:21 (thirteen years ago) link

"get low"?

hipity-hopity muzik ftw! (Ioannis), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:22 (thirteen years ago) link

I'd have to think that "California Love" and "Regulate" are as recognizable as "Nothin But a G Thang" but I guess I could be wrong.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:22 (thirteen years ago) link

Perhaps I am out of touch with 8 year olds but I seriously doubt most 2nd graders have heard "Nuthin but a G Thang".

skip, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:22 (thirteen years ago) link

but my opinion doesn't actually bear research, it's more of a definition "imo" statement from general observance in my lyfe

Chester, Your Majesty (kelpolaris), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:22 (thirteen years ago) link

Depends on the 8 year-old.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:22 (thirteen years ago) link

"a milli"?

prolego, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:24 (thirteen years ago) link

xxpost

Gotta say, my 7 year old son loves music but would never recognize any of those. Maybe next year?

And to think I imagined he'd be just like that little kid in the video...
