how did j.w. bongstein or that cave lady deduce that the interior of an artichoke is edible

I love olives. Everyone in my family loves olives. At Thanksgiving we put olives out & it's mortal kombat to get your share.
Yet if we have other "grown-ups" over they'll invariably be amazed that my kids love olives. wtf?

when I was a kid I would not cross the street to piss on an olive
that was just how much I hated them

Meee toooo.
And then I thought "fuckit, I'm sick of missing out on salads why coz they always have damn olives" and I made myself try some and I was all hey these black ones, they r ok I guess.
And then one day I had fat juicy green olives stuffed w/FETA CHEESE. Game over. Instant love.

^^^^ omg I have been complaining about the same nicoise scarcity for MONTHS now! I finally found some at a very small import shop in the DC 'burbs. They are my favorite olive!
They used to always always always have them at Whole Foods, but now NEVAH.

That is odd. I haven't used nicoise olives for a few months but I recall seeing them at the olive/antipasto bars in the local grocery stores.
