I dunno what you are wearing, Shasta, but any of the current [blah blah blah] quality Japanese brands. Dior Homme isn't bought for the denim, which is okay but nothing great, but for the cut/style. I'd be curious to hear more about whatever this secret [blah blah blah] stuff is, though I have a hard time buying that it can make the high end Japanese denim seem inexpensive, as already that hits 500 and up easily.

I know about Self Edge, they and BiG are great and I'm happy to see such stores hit the US. They are still overpriced though, compared to buying from Japan if you can. For 500+, I was mainly referring to pairs that are pure veg indigo, and often limited runs or something like 45 RPM's Jomons, not what I've paid for jeans like Canes/Samurais! I'd def be interested, next time I'm in Cali, Shasta, and would love to see [blah blah blah] put out and market something that can compete with the best of Japan.

ALLAH FROG (Sleepy), Monday, 13 November 2006 05:12 (seventeen years ago) link

I'd recommend avoiding Evisu, LF, they do put out some quality denim, but the painted on birds kind of shit all over it. Also, there are better buys to be had for what they cost now. PBJ XX-005s would be one good option for you, though they will be > $175 by a bit unless you know someone in Japan who can help you out, in which case they should be ~$170ish shipped.

reading about this japanese denim is kind of turning me off because it's all like STRONGEST THICKEST DENIM EVER THICKER THAN EARTH'S CRUST which is a big no-no in south florida unless you want heatstroke

i'm not a japanese denim snob, but:

i'm pretty stoked on the Levi's Capital E Stacked Skinny's. really nice wash, slim (i bought them a size up so they weren't tights), and really long so they bunch up.

also, i know shasta thinks they're poorly made, but APCs make nice low end/high end jeans.

jaxon (jaxon), Monday, 13 November 2006 05:43 (seventeen years ago) link

Well, apologies for it, but I didn't intend to totally derail thread! LF, Samurai and Iron Heart in particular sell a lot of jeans that are heavier fabric, but I live in a desert and can manage it year round, ymmv, however. Most JP denim is more in the ~14 oz range, and I think the LVC stuff is a little lighter even, though I can't remember off the top of my head. LVC '47s you can get for $175 online from Levi's.

ALLAH FROG (Sleepy), Monday, 13 November 2006 05:46 (seventeen years ago) link

I wholly encourage noise babes to get into the premium raw denim too, btw, it is not just a dude thing!

ALLAH FROG (Sleepy), Monday, 13 November 2006 06:24 (seventeen years ago) link

i haven't bought a new pair of jeans since early 2002 :( but the pairs i have have really lasted b/c they were decent quality to begin with. but nothing like what you're describing here. when i am not a student anymore (soon!) and make some money, i will be buying some outrageous pair of raw denim jeans mostly because this no-washing-yet-still-looking-good thing really appeals to my inner dirtbag.

rrrobyn, the situation (rrrobyn), Monday, 13 November 2006 06:46 (seventeen years ago) link

i am wearing gap jeans right now. a couple of last season's "1969" jeans were pretty nice! i have a pair of those LVC 47 jeans that i got at american rag. i don't think i like them as much as my APC jeans but i think they'll get better as they stretch. actually my APC jeans have stretched way too much and i am hoping the LVCs hold their shape better.

steve i had no idea!!
