or harry can go mental, notice his shit defense is going to concede no matter the situation and just think fuck it, we'll go back to the ozzie days and play 4 creative midfielders and two strikers...

hoy orbison (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 17 November 2010 10:16 (thirteen years ago) link

tbh three and two or four and one respectively aint far off that, with attacking full backs to boot

cant believe you sb'd me for that (darraghmac), Wednesday, 17 November 2010 10:22 (thirteen years ago) link

Pav's league goals 2008/09: 1 vs Bolton, 1 vs Liverpool, 1 vs Blackburn, 1 vs Boro, 1 vs West Ham
Pav's league goals 2009/10: 2 vs Wigan, 1 vs Everton, 2 vs Blackburn
Pav's league goals 2010/11: 1 vs Wolves, 1 vs Fulham, 1 vs Bolton, 1 vs Blackburn

I don't think goals per minute tells the full story (otherwise, iirc, Mark Burchill > Henrik Larsson) - you have to look at the opposition.

when a player never seems to get a fair run, i dont know if it still isnt a good stat to look at.

Pav's never scored more than five?!

not in the league - a few against better teams elsewhere of course - vs Man U in the league cup, vs Inter in the CL.

All of his 2008/09 league goals were at home.

Not calling him out as a flat track bully or anything - to score against the top teams you need to play them and Harry's ignored him for a few big games.

Smiley panda mixed moniker (7,4) (onimo), Wednesday, 17 November 2010 11:41 (thirteen years ago) link

not like our other strikers were filling their boots away from home or against yr chelsea in the same period.

No club going for cl spot can do without a flat track bully, if that's even what he is

Goths in Home & Away in my lifetime (darraghmac), Wednesday, 17 November 2010 12:01 (thirteen years ago) link

^^^i call bullshit but all the examples that come to mind have a midfield that scores a lot more than spurs's.

hoy orbison (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 17 November 2010 12:15 (thirteen years ago) link

Spurs now have a midfield(er) that scores.

g bale and vdv both

Goths in Home & Away in my lifetime (darraghmac), Wednesday, 17 November 2010 12:18 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh aye, keep forgetting Bale is no longer classed as a defender. VDV looks like deal of the season so far.

nah vdv is a lock for signing of the season (along w/ zlatan + ozil)

hoy orbison (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 17 November 2010 12:31 (thirteen years ago) link

I almost consider him a second striker but I can't remember the last time Spurs had a midfielder who had a serious change of getting 20 goals a season.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 17 November 2010 12:47 (thirteen years ago) link

But yes, a big physical striker much needed at the moment. I'm a little disappointed that Sunderland got Asamoah Gyan, who'd be ideal.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 17 November 2010 12:48 (thirteen years ago) link

srs, a cheeky bid for lou ferrigno and porto would let him torture english defenses instead.

hoy orbison (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 17 November 2010 13:06 (thirteen years ago) link

lennon/modric need to contribute more goals, there's no doubt. Pav/defoe are always lookin to shoot early and occupy centre halves in a way crouch/keane dont/wont. You'd be sacrificing a certain amount of participation in buildup play playing the former as a partnership, but giving modric/vdv room in the centre. Worth trying over a period of time imo.

"Harry is a very special man, that's why I already feel at home at Spurs. It feels like I'm back on the street.

"There are no long and boring speeches about tactics, like I was used to at Real Madrid.

"There is a clipboard in our dressing room, but Harry doesn't write anything on it. It's not that we do nothing - but it's close to that."

mizzell, Wednesday, 17 November 2010 14:42 (thirteen years ago) link

Starting to think that it's Lennon who's going to make way in a 4-4-2. If you've got Bale firing on all cylinders you can sacrifice Lennon and play Rafa on the right, drifting in with Hutton overlapping.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 17 November 2010 14:48 (thirteen years ago) link

lennon off form, sure. But straighter swap for modric, who by the same token can play naturally cutting in from the left.

Vdv may well turn out to be a striking option in 442 anyway

Goths in Home & Away in my lifetime (darraghmac), Wednesday, 17 November 2010 15:16 (thirteen years ago) link

Niko Kranjcar made it five goals in three games for his country as Croatia defeated Malta 3-0 in a Euro 2012 qualifier on Wednesday.

The midfielder struck twice before Blackburn's Niko Kalinic rounded off the scoring in a comfortable win on a rain-soaked night in Zagreb.

I'm still not certain Niko shouldn't be considered an inside forward like we've been playin VdV in the 451. He's not good on the right nor centre, hit-and-miss on the left until he's in sight of goal. Better finisher than Robbie (this past two years, anyway), and I think we should've seen more of him while Defoe was out in a more advanced role.

Judging by quotes he'l be gone in Jan anyway- hopefully not to another CL/UEFA chasing prem club.

If I'm honest he'd stand a good chance of getting more games at utd/chelsea than at us this weather.

two weeks pass...

ok

what's a fair price for 30-yr old proven premier league & international goalscorer robbie keane?

i'd take 5m, but then i want rid. if we were looking at buying a player of his career stats/profile/talent i'd prob be happy for us to spend twice that.

Goths in Home & Away in my lifetime (darraghmac), Saturday, 4 December 2010 15:41 (thirteen years ago) link

dunno who can afford to spend 5m on a player that has sucked for the past 2 years - brum maybe?

personal hunch is some sort of p/ex with west ham for c.cole - gold & sullivan might be the only ones stupid/desperate enough to try and match keano's lol colossal wages come january

r|t|c, Saturday, 4 December 2010 20:42 (thirteen years ago) link

but yeah the whole thing would depend on whether dude's willing to take a pay cut and for how much. be surprised if you got more than 2.5m for him tbh

villa £5.5m

tho he may be dead

Ectothiorhodospira shaposhnikovii (nakhchivan), Saturday, 4 December 2010 20:47 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah, given and keane are both gonna have to make a call on pay-cut vs games in january, they were talking bout it on rte last night. richie sadlier- 'tbh, i don't think robbie's that good anymore, maybe sunderland'. he's a good pundit.

can see everton, sunderland, villa all paying ~5m for him, but definitely he'll be taking a 30k paycut to move, cos we'll not be paying him.

he'd be our best fwd if he'd never played for rafa. but now he's shite and we pay him 80k

TL;DR - The loss of Champions' League revenue next season will be offset by the huge fee from the sale of Gareth Bale to Citeh.

only Manchester City, fuelled by the Sheikh’s billions, have spent more than Tottenham in the last five years. With a net £91 million, Spurs have spent twice as much as Liverpool, four times as much as Chelsea, nine times as much as United, while Arsenal have actually generated a surplus from their transfer activities.

top top

all in order, tbh.

always wondered where exactly amortisation of transfer fees gets recolved after an outgoing transfer. stadium questions are big ones.

wonder where we are in the table of transfer fees brought in? near the top i'd guess.

chortlin acoleuthic (darraghmac), Tuesday, 14 December 2010 22:48 (thirteen years ago) link

According to that chart it's

Man Utd
Liverpool
Tottenham
Arsenal

James Mitchell, Tuesday, 14 December 2010 22:59 (thirteen years ago) link

(xp to self) City, of course, have spent four times as much as Spurs during that period (or 35 times as much as United), and about 90% of that spending has come in the last three seasons.

reading Why England Lose has confirmed what I already knew, clubs that spend anything at market price are suckaz. Or p much anything on transfers tbh. or: loooool that harry article.
