Have some beer with barley soup at home love it SO MUCH. Love barley. Just the right amount of chewiness but with enough velvety surface to really capture the liquid around it.

I've got ten bucks. SURPRISE ME. (Laurel), Tuesday, 16 November 2010 19:10 (thirteen years ago) link

Beef soup. Not beer soup, thought you might think otherwise from the empties in our corridor.

i was gonna say beef oxtail & barley is perfect, laurel, but didn't wanna leave my meaty musk all over the two veggies in the thread to that point tbh

yah one of the last things to survive during my slow descent into meat elimination was barley and sweet potatoes cooked in the same pot as the bacon.

but not limited to that either

The malting industry, so called because the barley is first converted to malt, is heavily dependent on barley for the production of beer and distilled alcohol. Over 90,000 tonnes of barley or almost 10% of the total Irish crop is used each year in the production of Guinness stout. In addition, Irish Distillers Ltd use a combination of malted and unmalted barley in their production process to produce 380 litres of pure alcohol per tonne of barley
