I've told this story a thousand times, but about 7 years ago I woke up at a friend's house around sunrise and began the walk/transit home. As I walked up Mission Street I noticed Dame Darcy walking up the sidewalk walking a pet behind her. I smiled as I walked past, then looked down and noticed the "dog" was actually made out of a teapot and teacups, and rolled on small wheels.

gygax!, my friend Scott has an equally "wacky" anecdote about Dame Darcy. He saw her having a conversation with a piece of lasagna.

I have videotape of a high school age me getting questioned by DD at a Derby party in Louisville. I had no idea who she was at the time (though I had heard of her back then).

it was weird but not as weird as my interaction with Robert Nedelkoff that day.

oh, i forgot http://www.damedarcy.com/ ...as a point of curiosity... she used to have this great little shockwave toy that would let you put clothes on a paper doll. pretty cool stuff.

I saw her twice one day and let me tell you that she seemed a lot less crazy in the morning while eating breakfast on the westside than she did when she was on the eastside at the club with all the hip kids.

she was on Blind Date twice. The first time she was set up with a pretty normal, nice guy who said he wanted an interesting arty date or something. Uh-oh. She was "on" the entire time and he was amused at first but when she didn't stop performing he got bummed out. At some point you could tell she was like, conflicted, like between wanting to be all wacky and perform for Blind Date while this guy was actually pretty nice and down-to-earth, like it would've been funny if he was the usual Blind Date tool. The second time was one of those let's put together some of our weirdos, they had this guy who, on his first date, presented his date a scorpio in a box. They "hit it off" in a way that was, while totally forced, pretty entertaining. They went to a cemetary and sang songs and did a little dance.

Dame Darcy one boasted to me she had psychic powers, so I asked if she could guess my PIN number. She said she couldn't tell the exact order, but guess which numerals were involved correctly. Not bad, old girl!

Snappy (sexyDancer), Thursday, 10 February 2005 20:01 (nineteen years ago) link

(a wasted) Dame Darcy would not stop screeching at me at some party long ago, while sitting in Alex Haseltine's lap.

she and her baby-powder-goth crew also broke up a Lisa Carver reading I checked out at See Hear.
I was bummed...

charleston charge (chaki), Thursday, 17 February 2005 20:27 (nineteen years ago) link

she's a pretty good bass player, i still need to track down some of that live suckdog footage.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 17 February 2005 20:34 (nineteen years ago) link

12 galaxies show was actually one of the better times I've seen them! don't know why either, it just was. I was in an unusually bad mood that night, just pissed, and the second they started playing and the curtain dropped, I became obliviously happy...

it was fun seeing them at great american a few years back, but there's something about them on a small stage where they can completely take over your entire field of vision, you forget where you are.
