They never ended up naming that street Fred Hampton Way did they

deej, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 17:04 (fourteen years ago) link

no because it was never put before the council. the alderman (or whatever official it was) realized what a political hot potato it was after it was announced there were plans to rename that stretch of monroe after fred hampton and then withdrew her support of it.

so the city council never voted on it because it was never put before them for a vote.
that wasn't always made clear by sensationalist members of the local media.

I was going to put this in the Unusual Details In Wikipedia Pages but I feel this needs images to go with the unusual detail:

He turned his hand to fashion design; three years later, he released codpiece-revival "virility pants" he called "the Cleavers", enthusing that they would give men "a chance to assert their masculinity".[28] Cleaver returned to the United States in 1977 to face the unresolved attempted murder charge.[20] By September 1978, on bail as those proceedings dragged on, he had incorporated Eldridge Cleaver Ltd, running a factory and West Hollywood shop exploiting his "Cleavers", which he claimed liberated men from "penis binding".
