Hmmm, not quite what I'm looking for but a good recommendation. I've got about half that stuff - The Past Seven Days single is killer. AmazonUK has it for 7 pounds. 4AD really needs to do a massive box set like the recent Mute one.

I haven't seen anyone mention _7" Up! - Singles Only! UK 78-82_ in other post-punk threads. It's absolutely killer, start to finish.

Yes it is, my fave 7" of all time. I still play it regularly to this day despite being otherwise turned off by the 7" format.

I've seen that 7"Up compilation on vinyl LP in stores, but it didn't really look like it was offering much I wasn't already familiar with, so I didn't jump.

Yeah, the Past Seven Days single is utterly superb.

New Deutsch is much more beat/dance heavy than I care for. Some good bits, nice to hear one song but the whole thing made me a bit edgy. Someone criticized the other German comp I mentioned for not having a Za Za track and sure enough that's the one that stood out on New Deutsch for me.

With so much music at my disposal, I want a compilation to make me love it in it's entirety, more or less. I want it to bubble under my brain, introduce me to new bands and new scenes.

I also love the idea that I'm getting the cream of the crop of a particular scene. Lately I've been content to pick up a number of compilations, dedupe them, throw them on my MP3 player and play them all on shuffle. Taking a dozen Aussie or NZ comps and shuffling them, it's like what I imagine listening to college radio in Auckland, 1984 or Sydney, 1989 might have sounded like.

I guess my interest in this area is timely:

See, that's what I hate about digging for gems with post-punk is it's all down to these compilations you have to sift through and usually I'm just not all that happy with most of the tracks, to be honest. I used to really lap them up circa 2004 but I just burned out. What's especially annoying is when you do find a track/band you like and then find they didn't release anything else or their other stuff is impossible to find. What I used to do was make compilations from compilations, actually.

I'm delighted to read about LTM's Belgian comp that's coming. James told me he was gonna do a whole CD of Digital Dance, I hope that hasn't been shelved.

I'm happy to help you out Curtis, but you really should get on s1sk. I managed to find some more End of Data stuff there (though I didn't like it as much as the track on the comp).

I haven't actually heard the Disco Students yet, Dr. C but I'll keep your opinion in mind! :)

New Wave Complex 1&2 are good, and French. I like So Young But So Cold better, generally, as NWC is, well, colder. My Girlfriend Is A Punk is more New Wave, and from all over Europe, and pretty good. Teutonik Disaster is fun and German. 1979 Hilse is abotu half punk, half host-punk, and is from, what, Sweden? Norway?

The post-punk internet radio station Punk Funk Radio has officially captured my heart. I'm just stunned. A nice smattering of some of my fave post-punk tracks mixed in with a few I've never even experienced before. Amazing.

you have to go to live365.com to find it though. Which means you can either tolerate the ads or pay the outrageous price of $71 at minimum. Disgusting. If they were 20, 30, even $40, I would have considered it but $71 is ridiculous.

Oh damnit now he's playing Boots For Dancing! That's one of my favourites, holy shit! Where are the people who like this kind of stuff? Please, please forward me to them.

Life In The Future: Swedish Post-Punk & Synth Wave 79-87

It's quite good. If this is the kind of stuff you like....Though I wouldn't say any of it improves on the English/US models. Kitchen and the Plastic Spoons are probably the best thing--a great Crash Course in Science uptempo twitch; Reason to Live pretty much steal Depeche Mode blind ("New Life"); and Unter Den Linden come off like New Order covering "24 Hours."

I found this on Spotify, technically it's not post-punk - stylistically much of it is. I'd never seen it before! Now you can hear bands complaining in Italian or Brazilian Portuguese!

World Class Punk

So this Irish post punk compilation is relly relly good. Liner notes are fantastic. Need to investigate this Roger Doyle fellow some more.

I've been listening to this since last week, its well worth a listen.

Its a really well sequenced compilation. one that sounds like it went through various iterations on cassette/CDs given to friends till Roger Doyle was finally happy with results.

No, just saw it on that site I usually check for new salsa releases. Occasionally they throw in other sorts of things.

I was able to sample a few tracks, much more consistent than "Tension". Ordered, will review.

That Spanish comp, "Sombras: Spanish Post Punk And Dark Pop 1981-1986" is quite good, only a handful of duff tracks.

It's much more consistent than "Mutazione: Italian Electronic & New Wave Underground 1980 - 1988", which I felt wasn't all that strong. It's mostly in the vein of early 80s new wave synthpop, quite fun.

Anyone familiar with "Nos Années Punk 1977-1980"? It's sort of a mash of French punk and new wave, not all gold but has it's moments.
