Got that.

"Citadel" is a nice choice, but what about "2000 Light Years from Home"? Plus you neglected everything from 'Between the Buttons'. But I'm biased

I have a couple other Mellotron-driven songs on there and really "2000 Light Years..." is sort of an obvious choice. At least it's the one song that everyone refers to from that album.

Plus "Citadel" is the genesis point for Spacemen 3's "Losing Touch With My Mind" and that's clearly where my biases lay.

also Kaleidoscope (UK) "flight from ashiya"

I had "Please Excuse My Face" but I ended up cutting it out for space. It happens.

aw, margo guryan didn't make the cut.

Take A Picture was released in 1968 if I'm not mistaken.

Why "Goin' Out of My Head" by the Zombies and not something off "Odessey"?

Although recorded in 1967, Odyssey And Oracle wasn't released until 1968. Not that I've been consistent with respect to this. Anyway, JBR has an O&O track on her '68 CDR.

Why "Sitting by the Window" by Moby Grape and not "Hey Grandma" or "Omaha"?

"Sitting By The Window" is my favorite song off the album. "Omaha" is OK, but as with "2000 Light Years..." above it's the obvious go-to track.

Not enough Stax, '67 was a good year for them.

Yes it was, but as with intentionally trying not to sound like Classic Rock Radio, I discovered that a lot of Stax made it sound like a Blues Brothers soundtrack album.

He may be willing to mail a CD somewhere (and if so, I want to be first in line).

CDRs of this (and my 1973 one) cheerfully sent anywhere if you can PayPal me a couple bucks for shipping. Email me if you need a hookup.

On your comp or with a mp3-compatible discman.

Most modern CD and DVD players can handle a CD-R of mp3s. Otherwise you can always load it in your computer and play it that way.

Elvis, did you get my e-mail?

Re Stax--"Raise Your Hand" and "Don't Rock the Boat" are not exactly what you'd hear on oldies radio, not even in Memphis. Ditto Sam and Dave's great "I Can't Stand Up."

WTF @ this weirdness.

From here:

“When the Good Sun Shines”/Elmo & Almo (6/10/67). A studio creation by producers Charlie Koppelman and Don Rubin, which was intended to pave the way for an animated cartoon series and a Peanuts-style comic strip. According to a June 3, 1967, article in Billboard, the series would feature cartoon characters against live backgrounds and musical performances. More intriguing, “the artist who [will do] the comic strip was living in singer/composer Tim Hardin’s basement. He, too [like the singers who provided voices for Elmo and Almo] will remain anonymous.” The song was written by Gary Bonner and Alan Gordon, who were mentioned here just a week ago—and it may be Bonner and Gordon who are singing on the record. (Neither the TV series nor the comic strip ever got made, as best I can tell.)
