aim app only works while running. You give it yr details once, it remembers them. Tabbed interface -- buddies, statuses and live I'm conversations. It's pretty neat.
Nnw is a disappointment. Offline Reading is nice, but UI not polished, no control over feeds, no unified, poor browser. Very 1.0
iTunes remote is fucking awesome.
Facebook app won't sign in, ffs.
All the book readers are rubbish.

thanks, stet.
caek, i don't see how you were being anything but purposefully obtuse. obviously, i was asking how the official AIM client works on the iphone, from someone who has used it. if my sandy vagina is clouding my vision then i must be mistaken.
― cutty, Thursday, 10 July 2008 16:31 (fifteen years ago) link
I wouldn't say you were obviously asking for first-hand experience with AIM on the iPhone; I assumed you wanted PR-speak "this is how it works"-type hype info, as well.

I took "how does it work" to mean, y'know, "how does it work" not "how is it to use". Apparently you meant the latter. I wasn't being obtuse.

Apple's free Remote Application (iTunes Link) is also available and allows you to "control the music on your computer or Apple TV from your iPod touch or iPhone. Play, pause, skip, shuffle. See your songs, playlists, and album art on your iPod touch or iPhone as if you were right in front of your computer. Remote works with your Wi-Fi network, so you can control playback from anywhere in and around your home."
oooh that is cool!
― czn, Thursday, 10 July 2008 17:31 (fifteen years ago) link
I haven't used the itunes remote app yet (soon I hope!) but from what I've read, it lets you display and play from your computer's itunes library on your iphone/ipod touch. It does it over wifi.
xpost yes that's better put
― Euler, Thursday, 10 July 2008 17:32 (fifteen years ago) link
damn! do any of them at least let you skip to a given page in a pdf? i'd settle for that, really.
AIM will use the push-style stuff, but only when that goes live in september, i believe.
― toby, Thursday, 10 July 2008 17:40 (fifteen years ago) link
Yeh push isn't live yet. Toby I've got one more to try that might.
iTunes remote is the killer though. AirTunes has needed it since launch.

really looking forward to trying that one out when i go back in, i have to say [and also looking forward to having home internet again so i don't have to keep going outside to download apps etc].

It's like Salling Clicker did years ago, except it rocks.
the remote is simply awesome--same interface as the ipod function ON IPHONE
AIM i'm not too pleased with--what's the point if it's not persistent and logs you off everytime the phone goes to sleep? (ON IPHONE)
― cutty, Friday, 11 July 2008 01:01 (fifteen years ago) link
It's good when yr bored and in one place, though. The non-persistance isn't their fault, though, Apple won't let apps run in the background. Notifications will sort that, though.

though ON IPHONE though
Evernote for iPhone is incredible, I'm also enjoying Twitterrific and Remote, I'm somewhat intrigued by Whrrl and will likely end up buying OmniFocus.

BoxOffice is pretty cool -- automatically determines where you are, then gives you a list of all movies playing within a certain radius of you, their start times and Rotten Tomatoes ratings.

What about this google app? Which is meant to make search easier, but for some reason is only in the US app store, and not ours?? Anyone tried it? Should UKers be miffed?
I've bought monkey ball. tempted by that cute looking piano/guitar thing too. And midomi, if it works, could be amazing.
But I can't test any of these until dhl bring me my 3g in the morning.

Evernote was fucking useless for me, I deleted it. All my notes came up in 6pt, no way to zoom. New notes also unreadable.
BoxOffice doesn't work in the UK, and I really wish it did.
Have bought bejewelled. It's as addictive as ever.

Why would you need an app for that? I find the native Notes app to be more than adequate.

OCR, automatic file naming etc. If you use it like once a month then notes is fine. If youβre trying to go fully paperless it is not up to the job.
