Sorry, I just don't see what you get from this thread that you couldn't achieve by opening a notepad file and just listing things there. Besides the opportunity to "zing" me with your no-caps, low effort posting and high-five your "posting bros" over it afterwards.

Five thousand years ago pigeons, called doves, were domesticated as a source of food and companionship. Soon they were harnessed as a messenger. It was a pigeon that delivered the results of the first marathon. A pigeon returned to Noah on the ark with an olive branch to signal that the great flood was receding. A pigeon descended as the holy spirit during Christ’s baptism.

The five pigeons portrayed here are from the Book of Columba, a little known biblical age text that included parables with pigeons as spiritual guides, advisors and symbols. The references to doves in the bible are all that remains of this rich history of pigeons and religion.

These five altar pieces are designed to accept votive offerings to these pigeons saints. A votive offering is given in the hope that the chosen figure will work miracles, or to thank the figure for miracles already worked.

If you would like to make an offering please purchase a handful of healthy bird feed and place it inside the altar of your choice. Your offering will be carried off by local birds, which will benefit from the natural food that is not as damaging as the processed grains they usually have to eat from our leftovers and throw-aways.

If you would prefer to take away an icon of one of the five pigeons, simply purchase one of the capsules and see which pigeon flies across your path. All proceeds will be donated to the Broad Street Ministry, a broad-minded Christian community that cherishes creativity, fosters and nurtures artistic expression, extends inclusive hospitality and works for a more just world through civic engagement.

heaven and Jesus and the saints and all the martyrs

Saint Benedict seems cool. left Rome to be a wandering hermit, ended up living in a cave for 3 years like some Tibetan monk. he became a local legend and was asked to take over for the recently deceased abbot of a nearby monastery. he instituted the "Rule of Saint Benedict" which became the standard rule-set for Xtian monasteries and was strict (it was said he knew when people broke the rules even when far from the monastery and he would call bad behavior out on his return) and punitive enough to make him plenty of enemies, who repeatedly tried to poison him, occasions of which there are all these miracles attached. he blessed a poisoned cup and it shattered. he blessed a piece of poisoned bread and a raven came and took it away. when he got tired of this he left his post to go back to living in a cave.

his story is a lot longer and seems pretty cool. i wonder if anyone has written a story about him that doesn't just focus on his monastery rules.

The monks of Ely were notorious saint stealers, but they were also responsible for a saint-jacking when they stole the body of St Eadnoth when it was en route to Ramsey in 1016. Is anyone aware of any other saint-jackings where relics have been intercepted and stolen en route? pic.twitter.com/A7BuyYlIsx
