Hello ILX.

Longtime poster gr8080 here, fresh from a 60 day ban. Its good to be back on these internets with all you fine people.

Having served my ban without protest, I now find myself in a position of having to ask for my 77 privileges to be restored. The argument against my ever returning to 77 having already been made sufficiently, in this post I will attempt to explain the actions I took which resulted in my ban, as well as present reasons why I should be allowed back into the 77 fold.

First off, since 60 days is ancient history when it comes to admin log drama, I will do my best to re-cap:

On September 29, 2010 I used my gr8080 login to invite a sockpuppet of my own creation (login name: -hot-dengue-fever-) to the 77 board. I then used the -hot-dengue-fever- login to post a youtube video to the "what's happening to our borad" thread that came from a youtube account with the same name. The video was a sideshow of screen grabs that ILX poster "markers" had made to the same thread, all involving the consumption and/or purchase of junk food. It was set to Cat Stevens' 1977 song "Was a Dog a Donut?" Within a few hours, markers made a request on Moderator's Request Forum that the video be deleted from the thread. The post was deleted, my sockpuppet was perma-banned, and shortly thereafter I received a 60-day sitewide ban and removal of my 77 privs.

I know that sockpuppets are frowned upon by a lot of the ILX community, but some of us don't mind their presence and occasionally enjoy them. I created the -hot-dengue-fever- login with the intent that it would be used 100% to post original youtube videos summing up ILX threads. Why didn't I just post them with my gr8080 login? I don't know. Cause I thought it would be cooler if they were coming from a sockpuppet. I can't really explain it, but I liked the idea of a poster who communicated solely in original youtube videos. I'm sorry if this is creepey to you guys. Maybe I should have just stuck to IRE threads.

I'm proud of those first two posts and I think they contributed to the spirit of the threads they were on.

However, making the markers video was not a good look. I regret it, and not just because it got me banned, but because it wasn't really funny. I knew when I made it that it might come off as creepy to some people, but hoped it would be seen as cute and funny by others. My intent was never to bully markers or make him feel bad-- i just started looking at all his posts on that thread and noticed how often they were about junk food and thought it was really cute and funny. I had been looking for something to use for the next -hot-dengue-fever- video and at the time it seemed like a good idea to make a video instead of just C+Ping them somewhere.

Now, my major offense is that by hosting that video on youtube, I broke the "what happens on 77 stays on 77" rule. When I realized this, it was a major *facepalm* moment for me because as anti-hardman-mod as I am, I think this is a good rule to keep. I've started a lot of threads on 77 because I wanted to share stuff with my ILX friends but not the rest of the internet. The irony is that I actually was thinking about this rule when I made the post. I considered posting the video in the lols thread or the o_O thread, but realized that that would be breaking the 77 golden rule. I know this sounds stupid, but i was only thinking about youtube as a means to embedding a video ON A 77 THREAD. I never stopped to consider that by hosting it on youtube, I was sharing it with the world. As soon as this was brought to my attention (only a few hours after I had first uploaded it) I deleted the video. Also, while the video was up it only had the title "markers" and had no tags, let alone any that would lead people to ILX, markers, or anywhere else relevant.

I would also like to let it be known that I apologized to markers that same day and we're fine now. We even became facebook friends as a result, (one of my least-regrettable ILX friendings in fact).

TO SUMMARIZE:

1) I didnt use a sockpuppet as a way of hiding my identity. I knew full well that mods would know it was me, as 1) i invited my own sock to 77 and 2) who the fuck else would make a post like that from a Hawaii ip address? I posted it as a sock because it was part of a misguided creative endeavor. I'm sorry this was creepy.

2) I actually considered the "no 77 shit off 77 rule" and intentionally posted the content on a 77 thread, however never stopped to think that by putting it on youtube, I was breaking said rule. In my head I was using youtube as a way to re-post 77 shit on 77. I'm a moron for not realizing this, I ameded it as soon as it was brought to my attention, and I'm super sorry. Can I have a 2nd chance?

3) I was literally the first person Curtis invited to 77, really enjoy it there, and before this shit went down, have proven myself to be a valuable and likable member of the 77 community. I have made amends with the offended party, learned my lesson, and hopefully have earned the trust of the rest of 77.

4) I would like to point out that anyone who has talked about me on 77 in the last 60 days has broken the other golden rule of 77, as will anyone who does so until I am allowed back into the fold.
