haha. now that she's catching up, we need to catch up on the child proofing. case in point -- the fireplace over there, with its sharp, hard corners. is there anything any of y'all would recommend for that kind of thing, other than just totally blocking that area of the room off? are there like pads or bumper sort of things?

I have never child-proofed much, apart from stairgates and plug socket covers. Mind you my kids are always covered in grazes and bruises.

yeah, i don't think we're going to go nuts with it, it really is just that fireplace that freaks me out!

I love the cat in the video.

you might be able to use the same things they make for covering up the corners of tables?

the only child-proofing we did was.. actually i don't think we did anything other than just get everything UP off the floor. we didn't even get stair gates. then again we don't have an actual fireplace!

YAYYYY!

re: childproofing. My in-laws just used an array of pillows around the hearth whenever toddlers came to visit. However, they recently switched to a fireplace bumper, which is less liable to get knocked out of the way.

Once again:

YAYYYY!

You can improvise with pieces of foam rubber, that kind of thing. When my eldest was a toddler we had a plastic ball dispenser for washing liquid taped to the particularly vicious corner of our glass dining table.

Yayyyy!
thanks for the reccs. we have this foam floor thing that we might try to use as some sort of padding. won't look great, but oh well. can't believe those bumpers are so expensive!

They are so light and small at that age that whatever they bang into or fall against won't be able to cause much damage. Maybe put a stair gate up? We put a gate across our living room, but mostly just to keep them from getting into stuff. For our fireplace, we got a doorway gate and wedged it in there...

keeping this thread on its path from immobile baby to mobile baby, here's the kiddo dancing, walking, clapping hands, talking, all in the space of 30 seconds

we've also come up with a fairly good fireplace solution. we affixed this foamy rug thing that had been in her room to the corners, so i think that'll work.

i know! i've watched that video like a hundred times i think. that's basically how she walks around, laughing, bobbling, babbling.

Oh my god. She's adorable, Tyler. I am so, so stoked for when my daughter gets to do that kind of stuff.

love baby dancing, it seems like they have no concept of what they're doing, just that bending their knees when they hear tunes seems like the right thing to do

BIG MUFFIN (gbx), Tuesday, 23 November 2010 19:46 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah, she basically likes anything with a good beat. it seems totally involuntary most of the time.

my son is a dance machine...he used to go nuts over Grizzly Bears "Two Weeks" before he could walk.
