fuck "say ahh"

kkkvagz (The Reverend), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 05:07 (thirteen years ago) link

"bottoms up" >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> "say aah"

like "say aah" is the kind of song you don't mind hearing ever but don't think about other than that, "bottoms up" is the kind of song you get a bit compulsive with.

last third of the album is amazing btw

and minaj >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> fabolous in every sense - i think there may have been maybe two fabolous verses over the years that i want to listen to again? can't stand his boring monotone voice, he's pretty much been my least favourite rapper of any stature for the past decade

Fabulous has done guest raps on so many tracks I flat
out adore that I end up liking his raps by default.

Was surprised by how much l love the drake track on the
Mmts album.

'unusual' you mean? what do you like about it? even irrespective of how it doesn't work on the album i would still think it easily the worst thing on there.

r|t|c, Tuesday, 9 November 2010 11:52 (thirteen years ago) link

"unusual" is really good, i thought - how is it out of place? it fits in perfectly with the ebbs and flows and drifts and drama of the last third.

lex lex lex lex lex on the track BOW (lex pretend), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 12:32 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah i tend to take a holistic view of the album rather than portioning it out to suit my r&b aesthete div needs. spoke of this at length on the rolling thread.

r|t|c, Tuesday, 9 November 2010 12:40 (thirteen years ago) link

oh well

lex lex lex lex lex on the track BOW (lex pretend), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 12:44 (thirteen years ago) link

do feel a little out of place round here not repeating my meagre thoughts endlessly.

r|t|c, Tuesday, 9 November 2010 12:50 (thirteen years ago) link

'unusual' you mean? what do you like about it?

I think just the two note string riffs, pretty much! They really make it IMO (as a side-benefit rescue the post-"1 Thing" drumkit-falling-down-the-stairs beat).

I don't like it as much as "Blind" or "Can't Be Friends" say, but I'm a corny fuxx who always falls for tunes like those so that wasn't at all surprising.

Tim F, Tuesday, 9 November 2010 21:40 (thirteen years ago) link

haute couture wolf gang frill them all (samosa gibreel), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 21:56 (thirteen years ago) link

uh the offensively inept stylings of boi-1da rehashing 'over' again do not constitute any post-'1 thing' anything you heathen! how very dare you.

agree about the other's merits but are you a corny enough fuxx for 'please return my call' also?

r|t|c, Tuesday, 9 November 2010 21:59 (thirteen years ago) link

hahaha oh 'pain (interlude)', how could ever i forget you.

Inept, yes, but I wouldn't think offensively so (then again I successfuly avoided "Over" so...). As I said, I'm surprised I really like it - in part because yeah it's a kind of nothing song with a kind of bad beat. The strings really lift it though I think.

agree about the other's merits but are you a corny enough fuxx for 'please return my call' also?

Yes, though I'd say that's less corny (though more in line with industry-standard corniness I guess).

Tim F, Tuesday, 9 November 2010 23:18 (thirteen years ago) link

oh wait it's "unfortunate" that i really love! i like "unusual" - and indeed drake's verse - more than i thought i would and i don't think it's out of place, just wouldn't defend it as much as "unfortunate"

lex lex lex lex lex on the track BOW (lex pretend), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 23:22 (thirteen years ago) link

I love "Unfortunate" too but that and "Doorbell" are kinda predictably great. With "Unfortunate" I'd go so far as to say that the arrangement is so obviously awesome from the first second that the underperforming chorus is almost a let-down, but then that underperforming chorus is also kind of the point of the song and I don't know whether it would work with a big break-out moment.

two months pass...

Ever since someone suggested that the harmonies on "Bottoms Up" are "pure barbershop", I always envision a quartet of Treys with canes and pinstripe hats whenever I hear it.

it really, really bugs me in "say aah" how ludacris refers to "patron" as "he"

that he got with benny blanco and still turned out a midtempo r&b jam is kind of a testament to how trey will never cave to dance pop crossover

lol "Panty Wetter (Interlude)"

i find it really hilarious that this album is called CHAPTER V but the album cover has "five" represented with four marks and a line thru it

last thing: heard "say ahh" on the radio yesterday and it actually took me 30 seconds to realize that i wasn't hearing "bottoms up"

J0rdan S., Friday, 6 July 2012 02:42 (eleven years ago) link

i hear SA on the radio now way more than BU, feels like a much more enduring song

some dude, Friday, 6 July 2012 02:44 (eleven years ago) link

i think i'd still take "bottoms up" only because i detest fab's verse on "say ahh" but yeah the latter is a really great song & sounds even better now that "blame it" doesn't hang over it

J0rdan S., Friday, 6 July 2012 02:46 (eleven years ago) link

I've never liked "Say Ahh" at all, love "Bottoms Up"

addicted to this song right now, that dumb little guitar riff is so satisfying. really loving all the 2006-2010 stargate produced singles atm.

big city slam (Spottie), Tuesday, 13 August 2019 17:46 (four years ago) link

stargate had a great run as hitmakers tbh
