srsl tho, either way, if u really need to be up on whatever's going on in gaming, touch gaming really feels like a new thing, even with the DS' stylus going on.

i feel like the fact that most iphone games are like $1-5, you can't really lose over the long run
― whiney trollins vs. hipsters (dayo), Monday, 8 November 2010 15:33 (thirteen years ago) link
really hopeful for the prospects of amazing puzzle games on touch platforms tbh. esp ones that involve building constructs to solve problems.
anyone played eliss on iPad? I love it, conceptually, but I think you must need the real estate of an ipad to make full use of the multitouch (which is central to the gameplay after a certain point)
― BIG MUFFIN (gbx), Monday, 8 November 2010 15:36 (thirteen years ago) link
it looks like it's a game about impregnating an ovum
― whiney trollins vs. hipsters (dayo), Monday, 8 November 2010 15:43 (thirteen years ago) link
which makes sense because "eliss" sounds like the brand name for a contraceptive pill

i kinda liked the demo but haven't 'splashed out' on the full thing.

re. portability the touch is a great platform esp. compared to the clunky DS but as a "thing" in gaming...actually from what I know of you forks this is right up your alley since it's like indie gaming city for super cheap, & I get the impression there are lots of gems being missed.

User jjjusten iirc, also I play the free version so if it takes me a while to respond I am probably learning about the fantastic features of some new scion automobile.

whoa, I'll play you! I got it a few month ago, but I have no iFriends to play it with that I know of.
I'll find you later tonight, or maybe early tomorrow. I'm something stupid like Z25SZ5S2, I think.

can anyone seriously recommend getting a touch as a gaming platform? is it worth the cash in the same way as a ds?
― a pun based on a popular ilx meme (forksclovetofu), Monday, 8 November 2010 15:11 (4 days ago)
I've got some mates who are game developers and one who's a journalist (edits Kill Screen magazine) and nearly all of them rave about the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad as a boundary pushing gaming platform.
There also definitely seems to be more & more larger games arriving on the platform too. Galaxy of Fire 2 for instance provides at least 10 hours of gameplay and much much more if you're happy to just explore the universe in between doing the main story missions

Do posts about iPad games go here or is there a separate thread for them?

Jenny I would like to hear about yr iPad games
― swagl (dayo), Friday, 12 November 2010 16:31 (thirteen years ago) link
OK! I have been playing Puzzle Quest in the iPad and that is pretty much the perfect platform for that game. Spider is better on the iPad, too, although I find it to be kind of boring. I could be missing something.
― phantoms from a world gone by speak again the immortal tale: (Jenny), Friday, 12 November 2010 16:36 (thirteen years ago) link
And Galaxy of Fire 2 looks like it will be awesome for the iPad. As soon as they release an HD version, I'm all over it.
― phantoms from a world gone by speak again the immortal tale: (Jenny), Friday, 12 November 2010 16:37 (thirteen years ago) link
I refuse to play a game on my iPad unless it's in HD =\
― swagl (dayo), Friday, 12 November 2010 16:49 (thirteen years ago) link
Definitely. Trying to play non-optimized games on the iPad is depressing. Puzzle Quest looks better on the iPad than it did on the DS. Easier to play, too, but I always has trouble w/ the stylus bc I type all day for a living and am always on the verge of a tendinitis aggravation.

Chopper 2 is HD on iPad and pretty well put together. You can use a touch or iPhone as a Bluetooth/wifi controller and hook the iPad up to a tv. Osmos is also HD and very relaxing. Though, paraphrasing someone upthread, it plays like you're fertilizing an egg. DoDonPachiR isn't HD but plays better on iPad. Mind, it's full-on Japanese style, seizure inducing awesomeness.

I keep trying to decide if it is worth it for me to get a Touch (or an iPad?) so I can play iPhone games. I really don't want the phone part of the iPhone, but I'm jealous of all the games I know I would love to be playing.

if iPad were NES, 9 Innings, GameDevStory and maybe Drop7(still haven't played it) would be the Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt pack-in

It's definitely a baseball game, but with a very fun presentation style, and good touch controls.

i would not advise 9 Innings for non-baseball fans... Angry Birds or Cut The Rope are much better games than 9 Innings but 9 Innings appeals to my awful baseball addiction.

Yeah, the Zen Bound games aren't really suited for train environments. They're more for playing alone at home if you need to unwind after a stressful day at work.
