whooohoo, after a flat October (up only 24 cents for the month), I won a 90-player SnG tonight. Love seeing those spikes on the bankroll chart.

430% ROI so far this month

beats the Lipper Average iirc

Having good success in 90-player tourneys, but once we reach heads-up, I'm terrible. Winning 14 buy-ins is great, but winning 22 would be greater. Advice on HU play? Would studying HU SnG strategy be the way to go, or is there a different strategy for the HU portion of a larger MTT?

Unfrozen Caveman Board-Lawyer (WmC), Tuesday, 16 November 2010 16:42 (thirteen years ago) link

it would be although depending on what your leak(s) is you might be able to just do some work on your effective ranges vs. standard opponent types in sng wizard & u can avoid playing boring hu sngs.

even if you think youre playing loose you probably just are pushing wide enough fwiw ime

I'm sure this is the situation. I need to find a Mac equivalent of SnG Wiz.

Push/fold HU.

Running so bad lately...the club comes, gives me the ace-high flush...and gives the villain a straight flush. FUCK! A monthlong cooler has got me playing scared and defensive. Hate this game so much right now!

Anyone know any Online Poker sites that aren't rigged to give action hands like flushes, straights and full houses.

Please help me find one. I just want to play free games against other online users while using a fair deck.

Do ppl really have hard and heavy conversations during the poker meetup, or is it something they have people do during intense conversations during TV and movies so everyone has something to do with their hands/reason to be together & getting real?

Stop Non-Erotic Cabaret (Abbbottt), Wednesday, 12 January 2011 04:06 (thirteen years ago) link

In most IRL games I've played in, you could've heard a pin drop 95% of the time.

No one really ever gets confrontational. Someone will pull some weird move and the guy on the spot will lean back and put his arms around his head.

And you're a dick if you even try wearing sunglasses.

Playing rational poker is fucking boring.

I've been at a .25/.50 LHE table for twenty minutes and only played two hands outside of checking on blinds, neither of which I should have (A-8 suited, K-6 suited)

Our weekly tournament/game is basically an excuse to drink, smoke and bullshit without going to a bar one night per weekend.

Right on; those games are absolutely the best, and nowadays the only form of live poker I can stand, most games have so much awkwardness and ego that they just become unbearable; the 20-something backwards-hat sunglass-wearing type has just really grated on me lately

Uhh, no poker site is rigged for action (at least not the ones with a real money element); back in the PartyPoker days people used to argue this all the time when it made absolutely no sense since the poker sites do the best if NO ONE goes broke

Multitable or try a different game? How many playable hands do you expect to get in 20 minutes?

Lt. Van Ice Cage (govern yourself accordingly), Monday, 7 March 2011 19:29 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah when playing live the social interaction is what keeps it interesting, online I usually play like 16-20 tables so you can do at least 4

frogbs, Monday, 7 March 2011 19:49 (thirteen years ago) link

guys. want to get a weekly fulltilt game going again?

Jlloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken (ken c), Monday, 7 March 2011 23:39 (thirteen years ago) link

people should not keep these exotics as pets. one day you will get a monkey and it will rip your face off.

OLD MAN YELLS AT SHOUT RAP (chrisv2010), Tuesday, 8 March 2011 15:38 (thirteen years ago) link

Def up for it. Also Lorax, it's the noobs and fish who think online poker's rigged. Hope you join our game ;)

Mark C, Tuesday, 8 March 2011 15:38 (thirteen years ago) link

Since the last ILX tourney, Stars has created Home Games...we could set up an ILX Home Game and have more flexibility about times/buyins/formats.

WmC, Tuesday, 8 March 2011 16:17 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah i was thinking the same thing, I dont really know much about it but the home games thing seems to cover a lot of bases

frogbs, Tuesday, 8 March 2011 16:18 (thirteen years ago) link

i have no idea why my post about monkeys ended up here. haha.

OLD MAN YELLS AT SHOUT RAP (chrisv2010), Tuesday, 8 March 2011 16:26 (thirteen years ago) link

wait can you play for actual $$ in the us again?

OLD MAN YELLS AT SHOUT RAP (chrisv2010), Tuesday, 8 March 2011 16:27 (thirteen years ago) link

I think Washington (state, not DC) is the only place that has banned online poker? It's not illegal to play, there are just some tricks to putting $$$ in yr acct and cashing out.

WmC, Tuesday, 8 March 2011 16:34 (thirteen years ago) link

how does this star thing work? i can set up a stars account then maybe.. is there a rakeback thing for stars?

Jlloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken (ken c), Tuesday, 8 March 2011 16:35 (thirteen years ago) link

that goes to show how longs its been since i played.

OLD MAN YELLS AT SHOUT RAP (chrisv2010), Tuesday, 8 March 2011 16:36 (thirteen years ago) link

No rakeback that I know of for Stars.

WmC, Tuesday, 8 March 2011 16:37 (thirteen years ago) link

i can't play for like the next month, but i would be up for the ilx game again.

caek, Tuesday, 8 March 2011 16:41 (thirteen years ago) link

i can play most evenings i think with some prior notice.

Jlloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken (ken c), Tuesday, 8 March 2011 16:43 (thirteen years ago) link

e.g. weds, thurs, sunday evenings

Jlloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken (ken c), Tuesday, 8 March 2011 16:43 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah me too, if i feel like taking up this habit/time waster again. it may be harder for me now, since i have a kid.

OLD MAN YELLS AT SHOUT RAP (chrisv2010), Tuesday, 8 March 2011 16:44 (thirteen years ago) link

making good progress on the bankroll playing cash games lately. seems really easy to find one or two fish to target on each table. fold everything except if i have the goods with them and then pull back the line for a double up. not really testing ones poker ability i suppose?

Jlloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken (ken c), Tuesday, 8 March 2011 16:58 (thirteen years ago) link

you generally have to use echecks now to deposit

stars is a great site but yeah they don't have rakeback (though there is a reload right now), instead they do this VPP program that is kind of like rakeback, but it only really approaches the standard 27-40% levels if you're a high volume player. you won't get anything like 33% but the upshot is that stars really is the best poker site in so many ways and has a huge pool. give and take I guess

it was really easy to do this in the early days, but you don't really find those "all in with top pair no matter what" players anymore. you have to learn to beat the regs

frogbs, Tuesday, 8 March 2011 17:03 (thirteen years ago) link

hmm fulltilt are full of them or maybe they're just regs and i have gotten better? i wonder if the time of the day makes a difference too

Jlloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken (ken c), Tuesday, 8 March 2011 17:56 (thirteen years ago) link

that may be but the old style of "play really trappy" doesn't work the way it used to, even the fish know how to do things like pot control now.

time of day does make a difference...friday/saturday/sunday are the best times

frogbs, Tuesday, 8 March 2011 17:58 (thirteen years ago) link

I would be down for home games to lose money to ILXors. I'm available for a while some afternoons and most late evenings (CST, Texas)

ok i'm kind of freaking out now, apparently checks are bouncing and I was counting on this money for the down payment to the place i'm buying...this could totally screw me...BUT online poker is so big...they can't just confiscate the money can they?

frogbs, Friday, 15 April 2011 23:08 (thirteen years ago) link

there's got to be quite a few people (poker pros mainly) with millions or close to it on these sites, essentially using them as banks, right?
