fwiw i think 'country shit' is topically pretty generic -- like oh, you dig candy painted cars huh? and youre from the country? how novel.

hes def more an 'album artist' than 'singles artist' tho so i dont know why al's getting aggy about k.r.i.t. He also only has two tapes.

well obviously i was exaggerating a broader point that was not specifically about him, but yes, sorry i was so 'aggy'. i'm just saying like if the 'hook' for a guy like that is your tl;dr blog post that starts with a paragraph about T.I. then yeah i'd rather someone just say here listen to this song.

dorkslovesudoku (some dude), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 00:22 (thirteen years ago) link

dude who wrote 50 paragraphs about loverman rap songs is calling my piece tldr

deej, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 00:29 (thirteen years ago) link

ignorance of a rapper whose biggest critical champion can reduce him to "sounds a lot like pimp c" is bliss

dorkslovesudoku (some dude), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 00:33 (thirteen years ago) link

I think gorilla vs bear is his biggest kritical champion at this point

OH AND ITS WAVVES (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 00:36 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah im nowhere near its biggest critical champion???

deej, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 00:40 (thirteen years ago) link

like, even on this board

deej, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 00:40 (thirteen years ago) link

i thought you were the guy that plucked him from young buck's twitter and made him an internet cause célèbre?

dorkslovesudoku (some dude), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 00:43 (thirteen years ago) link

i listened to, enjoyed, and wrote an essay based around his 1st mixtape before he had any coverage. i dont see how that = BECAME HIS BIGGEST CRITICAL CHAMPION

i also published a review of his album (that i dont think is tldr but who knows considering your hectic schedule) that you can read that gives him imo a pretty evenhanded critical look

deej, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 00:45 (thirteen years ago) link

fwiw, i like his deep stuff most but posted "county shit" cause people who are iffy about him all seem to love that song and bag on his deep shit. deej overstates his reliance on pimp c, which only really comes out when he is in "4 the sooouuuth"-banger mode, but he is otm that krit is much more of a albums artist than a singles artist. really a lot of what i like about him is his versatility, i don't think any one song can really do him justice.

OK, earliest champion, not biggest. and i shouldn't have said "tl;dr" when I really meant "the first 800 words of this piece aren't remotely about this guy at all, so that doesn't really compel me to listen to anything". thank you for helping me refine my point, it's really important that i not be inaccurate or mischaracterize you at all here, that would be terrible.

dorkslovesudoku (some dude), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 00:56 (thirteen years ago) link

stop kvetching and just listen to his shit

The Reverend, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 00:59 (thirteen years ago) link

hey rev it wont work -- he went through the same spiel way back when we first started talking about k.r.i.t., i posted a couple songs at his request while he complained about having to download mixtapes before popping up months later to repeat the same shit

dorkslovesudoku (some dude), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 01:02 (thirteen years ago) link

gotta say, it's kinda depressing to hear two actual, working critics clowning on other critics for writing a thoughtful & analytic longform blog post

the thing is that i listen to like 50-100 local mixtapes and albums every year that i generally don't even talk about on this thread, and that kind of keeps my plate full, so when people just post youtubes without comment or write about something without getting to the point or seeming very enthusiastic yeah it's kind of hard to want to bother with it

dorkslovesudoku (some dude), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 01:14 (thirteen years ago) link

imo a lot of ILM threads and especially this one took a huge nosedive as far as me being able to read or engage in them once just posting a youtube and going "this is dope" or whatever became a typical mode of posting

dorkslovesudoku (some dude), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 01:15 (thirteen years ago) link

being able to acknowledge faults /= lack of enthusiasm + there has been plenty of commentary about krit here

i mean al if your thing is basically -- 'i dont care what anyone in the swag cru thinks about rap, i get a hundred other rap mixtapes a month to listen to' -- why even interact with anyone here? do u really get nothing from the curating of taste that ppl have when they link to songs they like ? and it also sounds like imagining some ilx swag cru golden age where there was tons more discussion. i think i convey ideas pretty regularly & honestly here & in my writing. I also think longform music writing is valuable. Im not sure what your point is here except to diss everyone who participates as something you dont have time for

so why post?

j0rdache, i didn't read the fucking post, dudr. i don't even know what the post is. but my only point is that it's not a good look for anyone to be writing about an artist and not get to the fucking point for 800 words. if you can't agree with that than good luck dealing with editors

youtube is great, i think it's great to find music on there and the couple years that people just linked to youtube on ilx were great. i just think that a) having to load a thread with 800 youtubes is a pain in the ass and b) having to turn off images to avoid those threads crashing my browser is a pain in the ass and c) the way the youtube links come up when i have images turned off is kind of annoying and makes it hard to pull up the video as a normal youtube window and d) it's resulted in a lot of posts where people just post the video and some brief non-descriptive phrase and i have to click on it anyway just to get an idea of what's being talked about. it's a shitty coding decision that i will never stop bitching about.

wait, so whiney, you're the guy who bitches all the time about gorilla vs bear & now you're bitching about blog posts having TOO much crit in them?

what is preferable median blog post word count to reel in the whineys of the world

crocodile swag district - teach me how to dundee (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 01:28 (thirteen years ago) link

i'm not bitching about blog posts having too much crit (or KRIT) in them. i was just echoing some dude's sentiment that you should get to the point, ffs. that's just good writing. i love crit but i don't think "make it readable" is too crazy an opinion to hold

i do often admire and appreciate the passion and energy of this thread and how much digging a lot of people are doing. i'm just saying it's slowly taken a current shape that i find it very difficult to take part in or participate in. i mean i like pretty much everyone who posts on this thread and to some extent take an interest in their opinions, even you when you're not carrying on 12-hour marathon arguments or posting 80 'nu bay' youtubes in a row.
