quincie, I'll join you in it, I haven't been keeping up with my working out lately and it's starting to show...

Allyzay knows a little German (allyzay), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 16:21 (eighteen years ago) link

Man ally you know it is bad when fifty-something housefraus are kicking my thirty-something ass in yogay class.

quincie, Wednesday, 19 October 2005 16:36 (eighteen years ago) link

where do you do yoga, quincie? its been a couple years since i have, and i have considered getting back into it...

petesmith (plsmith), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 16:38 (eighteen years ago) link

Unless the 50-something is Madonna then yeah that sucks. I am most likely in the same boat by now, I can no longer stretch my leg behind my head! Not even painfully...It just doesn't work. :(

Allyzay knows a little German (allyzay), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 16:39 (eighteen years ago) link

(x-x-x-post) Wednesday or Thursday next week would work for me.

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 16:43 (eighteen years ago) link

Unity Woods. They have a couple of locations--where is it you live again? Anyhow, it is a mega shrine to Iyengar yoga (everyone is having a freaking yogic orgasm about his being in town on a book tour) but I must admit all of the teachers I've taken classes with have really known their shit, and they are much less flaky that the Bikram and Anusara crowd. Ashtanga is too aerobics-like for me, but a lot of people dig that style, too.

xpost

I totally know what you mean--I used to be able to get both legs back there, but now I can only get my left leg up. If I drink enough on Thursday I'm sure I'd be willing to demonstrate.

Note to self: wear pants on Thursday. Not ready for ILX to see my panties.

quincie, Wednesday, 19 October 2005 16:44 (eighteen years ago) link

I should totally sign up for yoga, is it expensive where you go? I tried a few classes once and it was great.. I used to be really flexible because I took dance classes for years and years, and suddenly it was like holy shit, what happened, I can't do splits any more and I'm getting old.

dar1a g (daria g), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 16:54 (eighteen years ago) link

It is insanely expensive compared to my $8/class place in Texas! I think it works out to eighteen dollars or so for an hour and a half class, but you sign up for a session of 12 classes so it seems like a mega money hemorrhage when you write the check.

Here's the web site (almost NSFW 'cause it has the director in scary yoga shorts!):

i was enjoying that you are all such busy dc go-getters that it was troublesome to agree on a meeting night, but i guess all is well in the world.

pls, zr, maybe it's time to start advertising for red hook again. please use the search function or incur the wrath of hstence. possibly with google maps crossed with mta bus routes. also, when is google going to include public transport, trains and buses, on its googlemaps? this is a million dollar idea right here.

carly (carly), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 17:23 (eighteen years ago) link

go-getter me a DRINK!

quincie, Wednesday, 19 October 2005 17:29 (eighteen years ago) link

Of course our Department of Homeland Security would never allow anything like that

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 19 October 2005 17:46 (eighteen years ago) link

wow!

carly (carly), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 17:51 (eighteen years ago) link

It's not much, but it's a start.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 17:52 (eighteen years ago) link

whoa thats awesome

petesmith (plsmith), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 18:38 (eighteen years ago) link

I like how if you zoom out enough the green line disappears altogether while the other lines are still visible

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 19 October 2005 19:14 (eighteen years ago) link

Green line disappearing altogether=any typical weeknight.

Access to an even more valuable civic resource.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 19:30 (eighteen years ago) link

I was wondering why the cabs are so slow in this area? I go past the airport a lot and when I get stuck behind a cab I want to cry.

When I worked at Olsson's I met a lot of smart, interesting DC people, but I don't know where they all are now.

Re NYC people, for the most part they are pretty annoying really. Besides the Ilxors. NYC is a great place, in spite of the people who live there.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 20 October 2005 02:37 (eighteen years ago) link

Washingtonian magazine is lame, but their new restaurant columnist, Todd Kliman, who used to be at the Washington City Paper is not.

carly (carly), Thursday, 20 October 2005 12:58 (eighteen years ago) link

mookieproof (mookieproof), Thursday, 20 October 2005 13:28 (eighteen years ago) link

Positive food: The Burma Restaurant. Cheap weird salads and noodle things, with all the ambience of a Bulgarian money-laundering storefront.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Thursday, 20 October 2005 13:48 (eighteen years ago) link

i love the burma tofu salad. i would like one right now.

carly (carly), Thursday, 20 October 2005 13:50 (eighteen years ago) link

negative thing about DC in general: HIV positivity (seen those new posters on the backs of the buses?)

petesmith (plsmith), Thursday, 20 October 2005 13:55 (eighteen years ago) link

Coffee Espress across the street from my workplace makes some pretty good cappucino and muffins.

Allyzay knows a little German (allyzay), Thursday, 20 October 2005 13:55 (eighteen years ago) link

Naan and Beyond has a wonderful name and a fine shrimp tikka.

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Thursday, 20 October 2005 13:58 (eighteen years ago) link

isn't sizz-ex a funny name for a place? it just makes me think about sex.

petesmith (plsmith), Thursday, 20 October 2005 13:59 (eighteen years ago) link

I get paid a lot for just being able to answer dumb questions while strapped into a silly machine.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 20 October 2005 14:02 (eighteen years ago) link

Man, I need to find me a job that requires a security clearance! I'd love to be strapped to one of those things!

quincie, Thursday, 20 October 2005 14:04 (eighteen years ago) link

That was my positive thing about DC.

Also, the Metro trains have pretty awesome sound effects, are generally clean and they live in stations that remind of late 70's science fiction aesthetics, which I love.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 20 October 2005 14:05 (eighteen years ago) link

dc: it's better than indiana.

carly (carly), Thursday, 20 October 2005 14:10 (eighteen years ago) link

See also: trees.

DC Architecture veers wildly from sublime to utter unbelievably bad crap a little to quickly, esp if you walk fast like I do

carly (carly), Thursday, 20 October 2005 14:17 (eighteen years ago) link

The best thing about the Metro stations is imagining what they'll look like as Logan's Run-style ruins someday, with moss and predatory vermin living in those ceiling coffers. Mt. Vernon Square station is getting a head start on this.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Thursday, 20 October 2005 14:17 (eighteen years ago) link

I don't even know why trains still stop there.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 20 October 2005 15:32 (eighteen years ago) link

hello people! i am still in dc, looking for an apartment 'cause my studio in mt pleasant is too x-pensive. i am down for a FAP next wednesday or thursday. i generally work mon, tues, fri, sat and some sundays. pharmacy would be a good place to go on a thrusday as there is a server.

the social "scene" in dc does suck but working in the restaurant industry has saved me from worrying about my lack of law-school credentials. i do have to serve miller lite to hordes of social climbers on a regular basis, but i am easily consoled by the fact that there are at least 7 or 8 bars where i can depend on a few-to-many free drinks. i wont name them but 5 are on brian's list. also, i have a decent amount of friends (mostly servers, bartenders, or former servers, or former bartender, most of whom LIKE MUSIC [surprise!]), and having weekdays as days off means that all the people i dont like are in offices while i have the city to myself. yesterday: amsterdam fallafel--->wonderland--->w domku(thanks brian!)--->the reef--->mantis for dan soda's new night.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Thursday, 20 October 2005 18:30 (eighteen years ago) link

i might as well say this just in case: looking to pay 700 or less for a bedroom as close to hell/adams morgan as possible. i smoke, i drink, i stay out late, and dj but i am clean, like to cook and generally keep quiet.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Thursday, 20 October 2005 18:35 (eighteen years ago) link

from the city paper: ADAMS MORGAN. 1ST Show! 2BR, 1BA English basement unit, 1 block off of Columbia Rd. Totally renovated in 2003 with upgraded kitchen, new bath, W/D in unit. Roomy LR, sep. DR. $1500/mo.+. 10/17, 5PM

this one's likely gone. but get yourself a buddy and look for two bedrooms, it shouldn't be impossible to find something in that range.

i wish. i have express business center in mt pleasant and $20 for 5 hours. though i can go to www.discogs.com on my cell phone. this has already resolved a geeky debate in the past week.

i have a buddy. we are trying for 1300. i really dont know what i am doing cause i might not want to be stuck in a lease for another year. i have made a number of calls and emails, we will see. there is a 2br in the bernstein building that tom linked to for 1295. i am going to visit within 24 hours of now.
