just so tired of all these animal collectives

i love you but i have chosen snarkness (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 22:03 (thirteen years ago) link

Should've been a stipulation that all acts have to have an animal somewhere in the name.

That aside, Deerhunter should really be on that ticket!

Telephoneface (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 22:03 (thirteen years ago) link

like this is why I never go to festivals in general, more than a couple hundred people in one place turns nauseating pretty quickly

lol u went to burning man

fakey (buzza), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 22:16 (thirteen years ago) link

which, btw, did not involve 10s of thousands of people when I was going

men just grunt it all out together (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 22:21 (thirteen years ago) link

also a few thousand people spread across a desert is pretty different from thousands of people packed into a festival field, in the good ol' early days of Burning Man at no point would you ever be in a crowd of morons.

also you could still drive around, burn things, carry guns/explosives/fireworks, and there were no cops

oh how things have changed

Wow, being an upwardly-mobile urbanite US music fan must be the absolute worst. I feel so sorry for you people who are forced 24/7 to hang out with mask-wearing fans of an actually-not-as-ubiquitous-as-you-make-out noise-rock band that I may actually start an awareness charity.

Actually no, I think I'll spend my time enjoying music and looking forward to ATP instead, bungholes.

lol i still love this band btw

Can't say I'm too mad for Dent May though. He's like a bad impression of Jonathan Richman playing a uke. Maybe he's more charming live though...?

bd+ac are the best, would see

one year passes...

Maybe i put this somewhere else but my friend made this and I still think it's pretty funny. He was convinced 311 has a big influence on Animal Collective.

three weeks pass...

so, new AC. the Panda track is better imo.
Tare repeat the same tricks he pulled in Feels etc...
the production sounds like old AC, which is great.

nostormo, Monday, 7 May 2012 11:08 (eleven years ago) link

On first listen it's ok I guess. Doesn't feel like it has anything at all to do with 2012, which is not necessarily a bad thing but in the absence of new tricks I'd like some better tunes.

Both songs sound like Avey Tare to me.

spastic heritage, Monday, 7 May 2012 12:38 (eleven years ago) link

yeah both are avey. don't get a feels vibe at all from these.

mizzell, Monday, 7 May 2012 13:56 (eleven years ago) link

i really like the percussion. agree the tunes aren't great, but these were far from the best songs on the last tour.

mizzell, Monday, 7 May 2012 14:12 (eleven years ago) link

Wow, seems ILM really has moved on from Animal Collective...not even a bit of abuse for old time's sake?

NSFW Australia (seandalai), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 00:18 (eleven years ago) link

ya these songs haven't struck me very much yet, which as a fanboy is pretty rare for new Animal Collective material. I think maybe I'm not especially digging the sonic palette they're using, it all sounds a bit murky and indistinct without having other qualities to make up for that. But then I've seen them doing their latest set of songs a couple of times and listened to them a couple more and I don't really remember these songs, so whatever I still anticipate the album. V uninternetty response I admit, it's time to proclaim a shark jump.

Not sure what's '2012', but this comment sticks with me.

i'm holding out for the "Untitled" song that pitchfork filmed them performing at p4k fest last year

Centipede HZ is their Exile on Main Street. It's its own world... the best thing they've done.

"health reasons" or "family problems" always raise red flags

Beatrix Kiddo (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 12 July 2013 01:49 (ten years ago) link

One of these dudes has a pretty significant drug problem that is not very secret, but they've just kicked him out of the band before. Makes me wonder what it would take for them to cancel dates?

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, 12 July 2013 02:32 (ten years ago) link

Avey Tare seems to have a lot of throat issues.

Treeship, Friday, 12 July 2013 02:39 (ten years ago) link

Maybe his vocal chords are fxed up

I don't think it should be required of anybody, but coming clean is a good look. I did like it when Fiona Apple cancelled a tour because her dog died.

I didnt know deakin had a drug problem before this thread. He was hilarious in concert because he wore the collar of his oxford shirt flipped up and would dance around while playing his guitar, in contrast to the other, more staid band members. My ex gf and i kept saying "deakmeister" "the deak" and "fuckin D" the whole concert. I miss her.

Treeship, Friday, 12 July 2013 03:54 (ten years ago) link

Anyway, everyone here knows i love this band and i wish them all the best.

Treeship, Friday, 12 July 2013 03:56 (ten years ago) link

i also enjoy in line skateing (spazzmatazz), Friday, 12 July 2013 06:32 (ten years ago) link

care to elaborate? this is killing me

i also enjoy in line skateing (spazzmatazz), Friday, 12 July 2013 17:41 (ten years ago) link

seconded. I would like details on deakin too.

In this case though spazmatazz, i think the issue is avey's vocal chords because he has had laryngitis and complications from that over the past 8 months

Treeship, Friday, 12 July 2013 17:50 (ten years ago) link

ah ok. i wouldnt be surprised if the way he sings has damaged his voice already

i also enjoy in line skateing (spazzmatazz), Friday, 12 July 2013 18:06 (ten years ago) link

The details are: Deakin doesn't do drugs. Or maybe he does!

that motherfuckin' Deak. just like the Deak to cancel a tour so he can get high. what a Deak.

Treeship, Friday, 12 July 2013 20:08 (ten years ago) link

i love Deakin.

i want Albert to come back and give us the deets on what he said before. or should i say the Deaks

Treeship, Friday, 12 July 2013 20:09 (ten years ago) link

blow?? the DEAK??? lol

i also enjoy in line skateing (spazzmatazz), Saturday, 13 July 2013 00:04 (ten years ago) link

i mean, like i said before, he was dressed in a risky business sort of way when i saw him in boston, with his collar flipped up. maybe they had to cancel the tour because he took a job at an investment bank.

Treeship, Saturday, 13 July 2013 00:06 (ten years ago) link

i hope avey tare's voice recovers. this song was really good live iirc.
