The Hokusai tights are cool but for years I looked for large-pane harlequin pattern black and white, with no success (and no fucking jewel tones lest I resemble some random RenFester) intending to wear them with Westwood mini-crini and the jacket I'm wearing in my LOL College photos. Usually that outfit demanded black/white hoop tights and brothel creepers, LOL'80s

I really need to do a purge of MOR black tights with safe office-worker patterns and find a good source of whitegirl flesh fishnets w/black seam.

Also: ESM's 30th anniversary is next week and there's a massive party. OH DAER I NEED TO CALL IN A DRESS. If you could call any designer/shop and ask for something to borrow, it would be...?

wow

Should be noted I have never 'called in a dress' before... generally wear vintage to these things so as not to inadvertently look the same as someone else.

I have some awesome tights with a largish dogtooth pattern, that are actually black and white rather than just patterned black. I love them but they don't really stretch well ;(

The skirt (the only wearable skirt I own right now, I hope this changes soon) comes up to just below the knee.

Rox the demin miniskirt black tights and boots/chucks combo is something I've been wearing often lately minus the red lipstick because it makes me look too clownish.

yeah i can't really hack red lipstick either though i wear a variant

for some reason my reddish lipstick tastes like celery

Lipstick: Clear cherry red lipgloss looks the best on me, but it's hard to find except for bargain brands. I'm using Maybelline's Color Sensational lipstain in Cherry Pop with a generic clear gloss over it for now.

YSL pur opium or whatever it's called that i used to love now looks orange on me...this is my eternal red lipstick curse

I wonder how I can become someone who can 'call in a dress.' that wld be cool. good vintage a-okay by me tho.

I like cherry red lipstick but hardly ever wear it. also recently stopped wearing make-up, save for mascara and a dot or two of cover-up. My skin is pretty much down on its knees thanking me.

I have so many pairs of tights. but only wear my faves, which then wear out faster :( light-grey tights are the best, imo, but hard to find the right
shade. wld totally wear plum/dark-purple tights :)

My skin's actually cleared up just recently even though I'm wearing more makeup than usual. Go figure. I wish I could figure out how to cover up the chickenpox scars on my forehead--I wouldn't be bothered so much if they didn't look so much like pimples and whiteheads.

Just ordered a bunch of New Look tights online (know them well, but am currently in the US) including the 120 denier. Exciting!

ljubljana, Friday, 29 October 2010 12:16 (thirteen years ago) link

is the pattern company New Look related to this store?

admin loghorrea (sarahel), Friday, 29 October 2010 18:12 (thirteen years ago) link

IDK. On the party dress front, am going with very old flapper dress and HAIR UP to celebrate growing out a graduated bob, instead of calling in some Margiela.

Oh I got some awesome tights a couple weeks ago - purple and bright blue. They're by Hue and are "super opaque". So far, so good.

ob Ultra tampons are discontinued? NOOOOOO

And there seems to be a shortage of all the other ones FUUUUUUCK.

Do I have to go over to the Diva Cup side??

tokyo rosemary, Thursday, 2 December 2010 15:47 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm wearing super hero-blue tights today! Love. Need a certain vendor to come through with their annual gift card so I can stock up at Macy's!

I've got ten bucks. SURPRISE ME. (Laurel), Thursday, 2 December 2010 16:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Diva Cup! Do it!!

What are OB Ultra? Like Super Duper Plus? (I'm way out of the tampon loop due to Diva Cup adoption years and years ago.)

phantoms from a world gone by speak again the immortal tale: (Jenny), Thursday, 2 December 2010 20:57 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah they are next level above Super Plus, and good for heavy periods. There are a lot of angry women posting on the internet about this!!

Ha, they still make Lil-lets in super plus extra (aka ultra) (and also lite!! I love those, too) in the UK & Ireland, maybe I need my cousins who are moving to Ireland to send me some.

tokyo rosemary, Thursday, 2 December 2010 21:11 (thirteen years ago) link

They.Did.What?!?!?

No more OB Ultras?

What the hell?

I go through them at a rate of one every two hours at the start of my period. This is going to be a serious problem.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Thursday, 2 December 2010 21:14 (thirteen years ago) link

Seriously. Diva Cup. The literature says some shit about how it holds more than many women menstruate in an entire cycle!!!!! which is nonsense for me because my period is like an Event around which I must organize my life for at least two days but still, it does the trick much better than any tampon I have used. I can get like four hours of use before I have to empty it, even on dreaded Day Two.

phantoms from a world gone by speak again the immortal tale: (Jenny), Thursday, 2 December 2010 21:21 (thirteen years ago) link

yesss, diva cup.

from what I remember reading, the average woman menstruates a volume of two or three diva cups in an entire cycle. It is very possible to overflow one quickly, but that generally happens to people that are not–quite–normal. (Growth on my pituitary makes my cycle fuxored. that's what I blame, anyway)

My entire wardrobe was black for a very long time because I stained my clothing every month, despite obsessive changing of pads and tampons. Now I've been using the diva cup for years, and it's so much easier.

JuliaA, Thursday, 2 December 2010 21:41 (thirteen years ago) link

Was reading something funny about someone else's experience w the Diva Cup today, and one person noted in the comments that it's one of the longest-measuring menstrual cups on the market and not everyone is...that size. Just FYI, different brands of cup might work better for different people.

I'm going to look into something else, cos I'm pretty sure my Keeper is not going to be okay with an IUD (the Keeper pulls a pretty damn strong seal in my experience) and I'm sure the market has come a long way since 1997, which is when I bought it.

I've got ten bucks. SURPRISE ME. (Laurel), Thursday, 2 December 2010 21:51 (thirteen years ago) link

god yall. my periods are so light i rarely have to use anything at all, tbh

tim lincecum in a giants snuggie (roxymuzak), Thursday, 2 December 2010 22:01 (thirteen years ago) link

Same here, for years I bled less than one Keeper-full over my entire period. Kinda stopped using it, actually, cos it was slightly diff to get in and out, and it seemed like overkill. Like wearing a flak jacket to a snow-ball fight.

I've got ten bucks. SURPRISE ME. (Laurel), Thursday, 2 December 2010 22:02 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, I'm the same. Laurel last I checked IUD users were warned against using keepers/moon cups etc. because of the risk of accidentally yanking it out when removing the cup. That's the reason I've never tried one. I'm not at all squeamish but the idea of yanking out my IUD is really unpleasant.

ENBB, Thursday, 2 December 2010 22:14 (thirteen years ago) link

I had to have mine removed the other day cos it had migrated too far downward. Not sure if it was in process of expelling or if I accidentally moved it when the strings suddenly got much more reachable a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was expelling at the time, but the docs said the strings could have been looped up before and I just hadn't realized how long they were until that moment. I uh...may have pulled on them too hard trying to see how far they reached, cos I was in a big of a panic that it was on the way out right that second.

Will wait a month and do it all again.

I've got ten bucks. SURPRISE ME. (Laurel), Thursday, 2 December 2010 22:19 (thirteen years ago) link

Man, you're brave lady. I checked mine religiously the fist couple months but now I pretty much just trust that it's staying put. I should probably remember to check every now and then. Good luck with the reinsertion.

ENBB, Thursday, 2 December 2010 22:22 (thirteen years ago) link

god yall. my periods are so light i rarely have to use anything at all, tbh

Soooooo envious. I will bleed 3-4 Diva Cups on Day Two alone. (Totes normal, no cramps, just one insanely heavy day per cycle (the rest are manageable)).

When I was on hormonal bc it was lighter and w/ a Mirena IUD I had no period at all, which used to bug me but now I miss those carefree days.

phantoms from a world gone by speak again the immortal tale: (Jenny), Thursday, 2 December 2010 22:26 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah i think i make less than one or maybe slightly more than one, i can leave it in for 24 hours w/ no problem. it's pretty good.

john water (harbl), Friday, 3 December 2010 00:34 (thirteen years ago) link

I used a Diva Cup once, when I was at a nursing clinical and had left all of my tampons in the car. (It was the only thing I could find in the lounge bathroom.) It worked OK for the four hours left that I was there and then the seal broke open, staining my scrubs, underwear, the concrete of the parking lot of the hospital, and caused me to make faces and run to the bathroom in front of my instructors, which contributed to them considering me too unstable to stay in school. I haven't used one since.
