the point is that there's no way you could go from loving drake to hating drake in that time period

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 26 October 2010 04:39 (thirteen years ago) link

I meant that him having better production is arguable, not that he's changed at all.

Of course, with things so publically dire in rap, it's no accident that so many big-name rappers (Drake, Kanye, Lloyd Banks) are saying they want to 'explore' other music, 'expand' what hip-hop’s about

i totally missed the Lloyd Banks rock album, which is strange since he's such a huge star, thanks for the heads up

new mistah fab song...

http://rapradar.com/2010/10/27/new-video-mistah-fab-my-city-needs-me/

pretty heartfelt stuff...

the beat is cool/weird/kinda awkward and fab seems to take half the song to figure out how to flow over it..

still i was kinda digging it by the end for some reason

hey guys...

as someone who used to listen to a lot of rap but has not really kept up for the last 2-3 years, can you give me some good stuff to listen to? ive found it super hard to keep up esp with the volume of stuff out there these days, mixtapes, super-long albums etc. i guess the only rap album from 2010 i listened to at all this year was big boi, and maybe a little of the devin the dude (which i didnt really get into).

suggestions welcome. i have an open mind & an open heart.

candid gamera (s1ocki), Thursday, 28 October 2010 01:41 (thirteen years ago) link

The E-40 is much beloved but its intimidatingly long & dense.

j. sargent & lil k3v (deej), Thursday, 28 October 2010 01:46 (thirteen years ago) link

ya i actually got a copy of that, but it's like two super-long albums right?

candid gamera (s1ocki), Thursday, 28 October 2010 01:48 (thirteen years ago) link

everyone but me really loves yelawolf 'trunk muzik' (i think hes ok)

tim f & lex & i are feeling the Jacka and Laroo album 'neva be the same'

i think of all the stuff i typically listen to you would probably like Roach Gigz the most tho. His mixtape is called roachy balboa

day shift has prob been the album ive listened to most this year

just sayin, Thursday, 28 October 2010 07:46 (thirteen years ago) link

Other than Yelawolf/E-40, my favorite rap full-lengths this year have been Earl Sweatshirt's Earl, Big K.R.I.T.'s K.R.I.T. Wuz Here, and Curren$y's Smokee Robinson mixtape (better than his Pilot Talk album). You will probably dig the latter two if you are into Devin. All three have been released for free over the internet if you care about niceties of that.

No one has mentioned Waka Flocka Flame's Flockaveli, which is one of the autogoon canon picks of the year.

the e-40 takes some time to sink in imo, abt exactly how good it really is

j. sargent & lil k3v (deej), Thursday, 28 October 2010 17:18 (thirteen years ago) link

took me awhile anyway -- like u just realize how much ... idk ... of himself he put into it. its hard to write so honestly all the time!!

j. sargent & lil k3v (deej), Thursday, 28 October 2010 17:19 (thirteen years ago) link

i do love e-40 and i never got around to this year's output; i should get on that
honest is a nice way to describe him; his flow matches his lyrics really well in that both are more complex than they seem and really really unique
