"partying"?

a friend of mine from memphis told me a story about when he was on tour with a semi-well known band where before the tour started they decided that whenever someone asked if they "liked to party" they were going to say yes and do whatever that happened to mean in that particular city.

Gf's dorm was norton hall so I called her friends there the norton anthology.

"partying"?

The innocent kind with dudes and beer, not girls and drugs.

Jordan, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:31 (sixteen years ago) link

I just discovered that we're being let out an hour early today for Yom Kippur!

Is it on the condition that you fast?

Jordan, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:32 (sixteen years ago) link

Ooh, I hope the bosses will leave!

KitCat, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:32 (sixteen years ago) link

I was cold, drank some hot cocoa, and now I'm overheated. DOH!

KitCat, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:33 (sixteen years ago) link

Do you work for the Jews, Sarah?

Jordan, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:33 (sixteen years ago) link

I was just saying that b/c of what Jordan said the other day-- I said something about working at the restaurant and Jordan repeated it in quotes.

"partying" generally means coke, right?

Jesse, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:33 (sixteen years ago) link

Yes I do, Jordan.

KitCat, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:37 (sixteen years ago) link

"partying" generally means coke, right?
wha?
rilly?

La Lechera, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:37 (sixteen years ago) link

Hey! Let's talk about this Steelefest. When can you do it, A?

KitCat, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:38 (sixteen years ago) link

Yah girl!

If you're out at a bar and someone says "Do you party?" they're talking about cocaine.

Jesse, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:39 (sixteen years ago) link

(Yah girl to Amanda, not YOU, Sarah)

Jesse, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:39 (sixteen years ago) link

that's just it, it means something different to everyone. coke, meth, hookers, whatever.

xpost to jesse's "do you party", i think that would be the most common assumption.

chicago kevin, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:40 (sixteen years ago) link

That explains why no one has ever asked me this! I've heard people say "I like to party" but just generally thought that meant "I like to get wasted on (drug of choice) and possibly have wild sex with someone I may or may not know very well."

Weird.

Also, ummm, I don't know how to say this, but...I don't know that I was really all that serious about the Steelefest.
Honest truth: I am not good at sitting still for more than one movie, esp. if it is not at my house.

La Lechera, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Have it at your place then!

KitCat, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:45 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah right.

La Lechera, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:45 (sixteen years ago) link

I can bring Black Sunday.

KitCat, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:45 (sixteen years ago) link

No?

KitCat, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:47 (sixteen years ago) link

Maybe.

La Lechera, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:47 (sixteen years ago) link

I thought it meant weed sometimes too. But then they would probably just say "dude, do you smoke?".

Jordan, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:48 (sixteen years ago) link

Well, if you don't really want to, I can just have it at my place AND just show one movie.

KitCat, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:48 (sixteen years ago) link

("no, I mean smoooooke...")

Jordan, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:48 (sixteen years ago) link

Don't worry, Amanda, no one ever asks me either, and four days later I'm like "wahh? there was coke?"

Laurel, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:49 (sixteen years ago) link

I do not party.

KitCat, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:50 (sixteen years ago) link

weed = "are you cool, man?"

dan m, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:51 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm not upset about it, I sure wouldn't "party" even if they invited me, so they're probably picking up on some pungent square odor I put out. That's fine.

La Lechera, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:52 (sixteen years ago) link

Actually, I think a square is someone who would be appalled by such an invitation. I'm not appalled, I'm just not interested.

La Lechera, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:54 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm not appalled, I'm just not interested
pls to add to quasi-Morrissey song

La Lechera, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:54 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, I have the same connotations as Amanda re: "do you party?" But it sounds like a dumb thing to say, anyway.

jaymc, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:55 (sixteen years ago) link

Aaaaaaaand my work is basically done for the day. If only I could leave instead of fucking around for over two hours.

Jordan, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:56 (sixteen years ago) link

("no, I mean smoooooke...")

This is why that's dumb, too. I have on at least one occasion found myself answering that question with, "Yeah, sometimes at bars, when I'm drinking."

jaymc, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:56 (sixteen years ago) link

If only I could leave instead of fucking around for over two hours.

otm.

kenan, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:57 (sixteen years ago) link

Me too, except I don't smoke cigarettes but do smoke weed every now and then, so I have to backpedal.

Jordan, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:57 (sixteen years ago) link

I think it's a safe assumption that the kind of guys who would ask me if I wanted to party would probably not be the kind of guys I would want to party with anyway.

KitCat, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:58 (sixteen years ago) link

i want to party but i'd settle for a cigarette.

chicago kevin, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:58 (sixteen years ago) link

For some reason, I only imagine guys saying that.

KitCat, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:59 (sixteen years ago) link

fuck the rest of my resume sending, i'm going to play with a couple of wiener dogs.

chicago kevin, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:59 (sixteen years ago) link

truth be told, the only kinds of dudes who say "do you party" are the kinds of people i would never want to be around, ESPECIALLY if they're on blow.

chicago kevin, Friday, 21 September 2007 20:00 (sixteen years ago) link

http://www.betteroffdead80s.com/images/spicoli.jpg

Hey bud, let's party!

dan m, Friday, 21 September 2007 20:00 (sixteen years ago) link

i mean, free cocaine is great but damn, even i have standards.

chicago kevin, Friday, 21 September 2007 20:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Apparently, this pic explains it all.

KitCat, Friday, 21 September 2007 20:01 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm with Sarah. Anyone who would ask me this is not party-date material. If being used by a woman I picture Myrtle Beach waitress who always sings 'Black Velvet' at karaoke.

La Lechera, Friday, 21 September 2007 20:01 (sixteen years ago) link

xpost Should we ask Drew Daniel what he meant by that?

jaymc, Friday, 21 September 2007 20:02 (sixteen years ago) link

Unless you're being ironic or making reference to Andrew WK, using "party" as a verb is lame in any sentence.

kenan, Friday, 21 September 2007 20:04 (sixteen years ago) link

the arbiter has spoken

La Lechera, Friday, 21 September 2007 20:09 (sixteen years ago) link

Do it, Jamzeee.

KitCat, Friday, 21 September 2007 20:09 (sixteen years ago) link

the abattoir is smoking, the market is flush with ham.

chicago kevin, Friday, 21 September 2007 20:15 (sixteen years ago) link

My zit hurts.

Jordan, Friday, 21 September 2007 20:17 (sixteen years ago) link

is that slang for you having a smack habit? like a "monkey on your back"?
