I mean, I haven't seen this, but I have to bet that it out-DePalmas DePalma by 100000%. Would love to see Gaspar's Body Double.

I think I've been exposed to enough over-the-top violence of all stripes over the last three years (new wave of French horror, Ex-Drummer, A Serbian Film etc.)that I am pretty much, if not totally desensitized, at least far less likely to be viscerally upset by movie violence. It's more the tireless misanthropy/juvenalia that worries me, something that's def in evidence in I Stand Alone, which I'm currently halfway through.

that he smells bad?
― faust LARP (s1ocki), Saturday, 16 October 2010 16:18 (thirteen years ago) link
did i put that in haha
that was actually a hard one to do, what a bad interview i had with him.
i mean, he was very grunty and non-responsive.
It was about the level of discourse I was expecting I guess? Like his insight that De La Huerta "probably cries a lot."

Saw it Monday morning. How often is a movie TWO HOURS too long?
Homophobia/sexism in tow in spades, philosophically/spiritually retarded, occasionally beautiful/touching but mostly FUCKING BORING.
― Simon H., Wednesday, 20 October 2010 01:24 (thirteen years ago) link
Mostly sexism, I should say. This shit ain't got nothin' on Irreversible in that respect.
Btwn this and Limits of Control Paz de la Huerta seems to have a personal mission to show up in the most self-indulgent bullshit ever.

bleurrrgh saw this last night. felt completely abused by the end of it. audible sigh of relief from the whole cinema when it finally fucking finished

i interviewed him the day after and he was incredibly hungover and stinky and paz de la huerta kept calling him and asking for aspirin --If Airplanes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport (s1ocki)
^awesome!!!
Loved this movie, despite its faults. Kind of weird that I watched it the same week I started planning my first trip to Tokyo. (no pun intended).

imo he's saying he wants to see this movie that he already knows he hates but he doesn't want to pay $12 to see it.
he's also saying you can't be srs when you call it movie of the year and then declare watching it an exhausting exercise you wish not to repeat in the same breath. maybe if he paid $12 he would know wtf you're talking about.
also: this never made it in theaters here so I had to watch it on my laptop. >:-(

It was a visceral, emotional grueling experience for a lot of reasons (the flickering lights in a dark theater; all the huge scares of the repeated car crashes; the sheer length of the fucking thing). I'm glad I did it but wouldn't want to subject myself to all that shit again. Why is that a contentious position to take. Like I think Schindler's List is a great movie too but I don't want to snack on a Twizzler and watch the DVD before I go to bed

also Schindler's List is a pretty easy-to-take Holocaust movie. (J Hoberman and others damned it for being so)
