best sex ever vs. best meal ever

For the orig. thread question, specifically the best I've had -- probably sex, but it's close.

Changing the question up a little and thinking "from this point forward" -- I'd say best meal. To achieve at 47 what I managed in my 20s sexually, I'd have to go into some rigorous training. But I could meet or beat the best meal I've ever had tomorrow, and keep finding new highs until I'm 80, without having to get in shape for it. (Heart attack worries would apply to both sex and food, I guess.)

thread really got me thinking about what my best of each was, and the memories of the food are far, far more vivid.

it's really not close, for me - the best food I love, a lot, I mean I talk about food so much people comment on it, but with real intimacy, being that close to another human being, being able to feel as vulnerable and alive and unmasked as you do when you really get to that point

well I mean I don't like to over-tmi tmi but I think truly great sex is as close to the concept of the divine as I can really understand, that communion with a greater self into which one's petty narcissistic self collapses: that's true-life-peak stuff

People unmasked are enough to make me lose my appetite.

I can go back and have the best meal I've ever had whenever I want, and have done so several times.

I have been trying to have the best sex I ever had for years and have not recreated it yet.

Best sex.

where's your best meal?

gr80 antebellum (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 15 October 2010 16:17 (thirteen years ago) link

I think the best ever meal would involve some pretty awesome sex at some point and vice versa.

A Reclaimer Hewn With (Michael White), Friday, 15 October 2010 16:22 (thirteen years ago) link

where's your best meal?

I have more than one, actually.

Two can't be recreated because the restaurants don't exist anymore (RIP Maison Robert and Aujourd'hui) but I will ride eternally for:

the fusion dim sum at Ginger Park in Back Bay Boston
the lobster rolls at this hole-in-the-wall in Maine that I'm blanking on the name of, but is on the outskirts of Kennebunkport
the 10-course prix fixe menu at Graham Elliot in Chicago
ribs in Tennessee; it doesn't really matter where

GLEERILLAZ! (HI DERE), Friday, 15 October 2010 16:23 (thirteen years ago) link

as much I love food I've never finished dinner and gone "well, everything's changed now, I'm now in touch with places in my heart/spirit that I didn't even know existed"

I mean I do say things like "holy fucking Christ thank God for Paris, who'd have thought a round loaf of bread filled with runny cheese could be that fucking good" but if you'd have asked me, right then, "how many years of your life would you trade to have gotten a meal this good?" I'd say "years? forget it, maybe I'd suffer two weeks for this meal" whereas I would do prison time for the smoldering star-gone-nova change-yr-life type of sex I'm talking about

This isn't even a question.

I'm the least food-based human I've ever met. I mean, I like good food a lot, but when I put it up next to sex, it's not even close.

You should meet me then, the true least food-obsessed human, and we can talk about…you know…something other than food, I guess.

food

the parking garage has more facebook followers than my band (Jordan), Friday, 15 October 2010 18:58 (thirteen years ago) link

But yeah, the fact that this is a question sorta blows my mind. I know everyone likes food a lot, but I'm imagining a situation where the door on the left leads to a fantastic meal, and the door on the right leads to fantastic sex, and you choose the food door. And then I'm imagining that there's a hell and that it's the version where you have to view a loop of your most mindboggling mistakes in life, and that the leading clip is you eating a meal and then shitting out that meal the next morning while your hot sex opportunity goes disappointed next door.

Z S, Friday, 15 October 2010 18:59 (thirteen years ago) link

I mean, but you're dealing in fantasy. It's def probably much easier to imagine the hottest sex than the yummiest food.

gr80 antebellum (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 15 October 2010 19:08 (thirteen years ago) link

and just to say what I would imagine a few of us who're voting "best sex" are thinking: "best sex" isn't like, "hottest sex" exclusively; you're pretty unlikely to have it with a stranger imo, it's not about technique or hot bodies or w/e. it involves very intense emotions, feelings of love & gratitude & acceptance & being able to feel at home in your skin, something a lot of people (raising hand here) have a lifelong problem with. food can comfort and thrill but it can't look you in the eyes and communicate a feeling of acceptance. and I know whiney'll be like "lol you're gonna post pictures!" but guess what jack the board's called "I Love Too Much Information" and if you can't stand the heat get out from under the covers lol

theoretically i would take the best sex ever with a person of my choice than the best meal ever prepared by a chef of my choice, but unfortunately that isn't a reality -- also that wasn't the poll question!

in general, I'd vote "meal" cuz I'm such a huge fan of eating good food, but in keeping with j0rdan's request to compare the best in each category, sex wins narrowly because there was one session that was so ridiculously awesome that it beat out the amazingest meal I had in New York.

Distressing discovery: what would have been a really great self-indulgent meal just a couple of years ago now tends to just leave me bloated and disgusted. It's probably a function of age.

That is terrible news. Anytime something you love isn't fun anymore, yes, probably age, but maybe the silver lining is there's something else out there that you'll be able to enjoy now you're seasoned enough.
