Can you imagine how bad Piers Morgan would be as a weatherman?

Perhaps, but I like him.

His cnutishness is directed towards people who deserve it, to be fair.

I was just thinking about the whole 'newsnight weather' 'episode' yesterday, after being reminded of the Russell Brand interview.
Paxman is watchable and actually does try to ask questions and take people out of their comfort (you could only say that of Jon Snow and maybe Kirsty Wark about five years ago). I guess that's overrating him in the TV news world, and how much these people can really do when guests (not just politicians) are so well drilled.
I laughed at the time, but he's faintly ridiculous. The markets mean way less than the weather, especially w/out any kind of context about why the Dow went down or the pound went up that day.

yeah exactly...if anything drastic has occured in the markets, it will be covered in the news, if not then it's a virtually inconsequential metric to all but ppl working for pension funds or w/e (who would already know it)
tho it fits w/ paxman's shtick, the appearance of temporal seriousness, the world of great measures that he considers himself to reflect upon and by proxy inhabit, whereas the weather forecast reminds him of his provenance on regional news

(Townshend is being interviewed by Paxman, in case anyone is wondering about the relevance to this thread)
(there's a tiny bit at the beginning where Paxo just about manages to corner PT re: hotel trashing, but Townshend is far too good an interviewee, although the footage is chopped up for 'The Kids Are Alright' docu)

It's April, what do you expect?
April is pretty unpredictable Paxo, it's hardly December or August or something.

I'm too feeble atm to enumerate the ways in which he's terrible but as a documentarian he's insufferable.

Victoria Derbyshire anchoring, a TUC economist in the studio, the first 20 minutes and counting dedicated to the cost of living crisis. Newsnight is good again?

it's like hearing that a pub has closed down which I used to go to a lot when I was in my twenties but which had an awful makeover, went gastro, couple of bad landlords didn't help and to be honest I'd been wondering why it opened up after the pandemic. https://t.co/YQe4zutRgl— Dan Davies (@dsquareddigest) November 29, 2023
