This poll is long overdue. An impossible choice of tracks, and yet my gut still says "Leave Me Alone" for some odd reason. "5-8-6" would have won for many years, methinks. But where is the love for "The Village"?
I'm delighted that Kevin mentions Garbo, though I don't see the connection.
― Bimble, Saturday, 22 September 2007 04:44 (sixteen years ago) link
Garbo famously said "I want to be alone." Although she really didn't say quite that (something more like "I want to be left alone"). Given her post-film life, she got her wish. And she would've loved "Leave Me Alone."

Oh, yes she did say that!! SHIT! I get it now!!!

1) "leave me alone" because it's absolutely exquisite
2) which is saying something considering "age of consent" and "your silent face" are almost equally exquisite
3) what the FUCK are "blue monday" and "the beach" doing in there?
― grimly fiendish, Monday, 24 September 2007 07:48 (sixteen years ago) link
Your Silent Face. The rest are equal second except for the two songs that aren't on the album.
― SeekAltRoute, Monday, 24 September 2007 08:16 (sixteen years ago) link
'age of consent', but only after 10 minutes of deciding that it might be better than 'your silent face'.
― stirmonster, Monday, 24 September 2007 08:23 (sixteen years ago) link
KW1 for me - just marginally ahead of AOC. The Village is underrated, I think.

I missed this! But I would have voted for winner anyway.

― Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 24 September 2007 23:18 (sixteen years ago) link
okay, can we now redistribute the "blue monday" votes to SONGS THAT ARE ACTUALLY ON THE ALBUM?
― grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 06:59 (sixteen years ago) link
I might have voted for "Age Of Consent" too, had not "Blue Monday" been wrongfully included in the poll. :)
― Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 08:26 (sixteen years ago) link
well, you didn't have to vote for the 'wrong' entry you know!
― Mark G, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 08:32 (sixteen years ago) link
and dang i would have voted for 'leave me alone.' because the bass line sounds like someone just hung up on you. also:
from my head to my toes through my teeth through my nose you get these words wrong

... i just smile ...
jesus, i love that song.
― grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:42 (sixteen years ago) link
Oh god, people. Oh god. I mean how could anyone argue with "Your Silent Face"? I mean how the hell could anyone not love that goddamn shit? I only found out recently though that they stole the riff from Kraftwerk
first song on Trans Europe Express.
And yes I know before they gave it a proper name, New Order called it "KW1" or whatever it was because it was influenced by Kraftwerk. But Kraftwerk were never that godly. Never that holy.
OH NO!
"ULTRAVIOLENCE"

hey, mine is Ceremony. Just lately I've really been into Ecstasy from PCL. It's always been overshadowed by the opener and closer, and some other tracks, but it's wonderful.

Very surprised 'The Village' didn't get a vote here - but I seem to remember it doing fairly well in the artist poll we had on here.

"Age of consent" towers above the rest for me. Really great album though. Second favorite is "your silent face", kraftwerk ascending an escalator to heaven

The problem with this (and various other editions like this of late) is the inclusion of the vinyl, which I give not the slightest fuck for. On this front I've been very glad the Prince reissues AREN'T going that route.
