Is there some type of brain goo that is black?

I am going to a costume party as this photo tomorrow night.

katie quirk (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 17 September 2006 18:22 (seventeen years ago) link

There's still brown stuff and green stuff to be accounted for.

Space Gourmand (Haberdager), Sunday, 17 September 2006 18:22 (seventeen years ago) link

i thought the black substance was oil, and he was a robot!

latebloomer (latebloomer), Sunday, 17 September 2006 18:23 (seventeen years ago) link

Leftover corpsepaint would be my guess.

xero (xero), Sunday, 17 September 2006 18:23 (seventeen years ago) link

The brown is blood. I don't really see any green. Although the blood on his arms looks like it has some blueish, which is weird. I don't know, apparently a lot of shit goes down when you blow your head off.

xpost he had showered!

I think I am just gonna be Dead, and not DEAD Dead, which I will save for Halloween when my friend Ben will be Euronymous, and eat my chicken liver/apple sauce brainz. So for tonight, I will carry a dead (fake obv) raven around in a ziploc bag and sniff it to properly imbue my performance with the stench of death. Wish I had thought ahead to "pig's head on a mic stand".

the green stuff is under the knife, and might just be verdigris.

katie quirk (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 17 September 2006 18:34 (seventeen years ago) link

well, the dudes it's about were nazis...or at least extremely, extremely right wing racists. maybe i can incorporate this into my costume/performance piece.

RoxyMuzak© (roxymuzak), Sunday, 17 September 2006 18:37 (seventeen years ago) link

No, no...Space Gourmand...that liquid is just blood/water from the brain area...it only looks green cause it's discoloring the already green cloth it oozed onto.

RoxyMuzak© (roxymuzak), Sunday, 17 September 2006 18:38 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah but i mean, i dont wanna feel like i'm SUPPORTING nazis when i read about them

huh?

(Yes, I've read the book. I guess this would explain the authors' indignation over church burning vs their relative neutrality about anti-Semitism.)

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 17 September 2006 19:51 (seventeen years ago) link

this photo reminds me that i haven't put 'live in leipzig' on my ipod yet. haven't listened to it in years, but have a creepy urge to listen to it now.

i'm gonna listen to a couple of tracks from 'a grand declaration of war' as a compromise. the songs off that record were wicked life. so was 'from the dark past' come to that.

anyhoo, perhaps my favourite mayhem story, out of a back caltalogue of absolute zingers, is the news that maniac quit the band to settle down with his christian missus.

you're not missing much. the book is more true crime than music and true crime. as for the politics, "fortunately" ebay is forbidding the sale of certain records by black metal artists.

Roxy, if yer going to dress up as Dead someday, don't forget to bury your clothes in the ground for a few weeks to get that troo kvlt, necro graveyard stench. He used to do that before live shows.

> his whole brain just ... fell out like that?

It's peculiar, isn't it? The forensic scientist in me wants to pore over the photo to figure out how that might have happened, but the other 90% of me is like, "dude, do you want to keep your dinner down or not?"

How did these guys, who I bet were all from pleasant middle-class homes, work themselves up into a frenzy of murder, arson and suicide? My sister used to date a Norwegian, who told me that as a kid in Bergen he used to see Christian Vikernes, as he then was, puttering around town in his mum's green Volkswagen Golf. Not really the stuff of black metal legend, is it?

Palomino (Palomino), Monday, 18 September 2006 19:00 (seventeen years ago) link

Cute fact!

Varg Vikernes a.k.a Burzum used to date ANNIE! How did such a cute girl end up with him?

And Lords Of Chaos is a shitty book.

Yes, your brains do fall out like that, especially when you shoot yourself through the chin. He aimed very well, as much of his face is intact.

The scariest thing, to me, about the picture in question is that you can still see a bit of his (left) eye, and it is open.

RoxyMuzak© (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 00:15 (seventeen years ago) link

Vikernes has been fascinated with the fictional realm of Mordor from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings Trilogy from a very young age (his stage name is taken from that of a minor character in The Two Towers), claiming to have mastered the Black Speech from which he took the term Burzum.

Vikernes has criticized J.R.R. Tolkien on his website (http://www.burzum.org), stating that Tolkien's portrayal of the people of Rohan as dirty, penniless villagers was uncharacteristic, since (in his opinion) cleanliness, health, and especially bathing, were all values that were held very highly by Germanic people. Vikernes has also gone on to state that the women of southern Europe were much more attracted to Germanic men because they were "fairer and healthier," and since public bathing was outlawed by the Holy Roman Empire, many of the men that southern European women were exposed to were less attractive as mates. Vikernes feels that Tolkien's Catholic faith may have contributed to this bias.

Here she is in a VH1 interview, talking about her record collection - Mayhem is the last one in the list, but she doesn't say anything personal.

http://www.vh1.com/artists/interview/1506025/072005/annie_1_.jhtml

StanM, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:05 (sixteen years ago) link

Annie was 14 when Varg Vikernes was arrested for Euronymous's murder. I guess it still could've been possible that they dated before that (Vikernes was himself only 19 then), but I'm not sure how likely that is.

Tuomas, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:10 (sixteen years ago) link

I thought he was 21?

roxymuzak, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:17 (sixteen years ago) link

Not according to Wikipedia.

Tuomas, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:18 (sixteen years ago) link

Sheesh.

roxymuzak, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:19 (sixteen years ago) link

High school thing, probably - she only moved to Bergen when she was 13, according to Wikipedia again. So it must have been when she was between 13-15, if it really happened.

StanM, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:20 (sixteen years ago) link

I think Vikernes was already in jail when she turned 15.

Tuomas, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:23 (sixteen years ago) link

If he set that church on fire in 1992, then that may have happened while he was having a high school relationship with ... (uh oh, do you think that's why this is so hard to find?)

StanM, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:28 (sixteen years ago) link

doesnt he talk about having a gf at the time of the murder who had an apt and went to techno clubs or something? that would give me the idea that she was older.

chaki, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:30 (sixteen years ago) link

I think the varg/annie thing is either not true or better kept quiet...

StanM, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:33 (sixteen years ago) link

Choose Leif, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 04:32 (sixteen years ago) link

Where'd you post it, BJO?

I've heard Varg talking about having a predilection for "nice" girls who were completely outside of the metal scene. If she was into Mayhem, this would exclude her (although of course she could have and probably would have gotten into it afterwards).

roxymuzak, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 04:59 (sixteen years ago) link

some great detective work on this thread

max, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 05:00 (sixteen years ago) link

It's a BM "So Not Gonna Happen."

roxymuzak, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 05:00 (sixteen years ago) link

(PS, Varg was 21 when he was convicted, which is why his sentence was 21 years.)

roxymuzak, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 05:18 (sixteen years ago) link

What kind of logic is that?

Tuomas, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 11:30 (sixteen years ago) link

Scandinavian?

aldo, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 11:34 (sixteen years ago) link

He was older than (18?), so they could give him the maximum sentence, which is 21 years in Norway.

StanM, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 11:45 (sixteen years ago) link

Technically, what roxy said is right, but not literally (you don't get 23 years if you kill someone while you're 23, for instance)

StanM, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 11:46 (sixteen years ago) link

To clear up the confusion: according to Vakernes's Wiki page he was 19 in January 1993 when arrested for Euronymous's murder (though he turned 20 the next month), but I guess when he was finally convicted he'd already turned 21, since the court process takes time. Still, I doubt any potential Annie-dating would have happened between his arrest and conviction, so if it's true it must've happened before the arrest, whe Annie was 14 or younger. Which is why I doubt it happened at all.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 12:14 (sixteen years ago) link

You're right. Varg would never flout popular morality.

roxymuzak, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 14:47 (sixteen years ago) link
