amir derakh is the most talented, sweetest person alive

You won't be saying that when he stops giving you the high-strength industrial crack you currently consume.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 14 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Y'know what..? They did -one- f^cking cover. Wow. One. Ooh.

Blue Monday was a tribute to the 80's for them.

Some people need to do some -research-.

Oh.. and by the way.. if I could. I'd have sex Amir. He is really hot. Screw you all. :D

Just because they looked a little odd in the 80's means nothing. I'm sure if I was older.. I would've looked like them in the 80's most definitely!

I can respect you if you don't -like- Orgy.. but when you -rant- about Orgy.. that's just pathetic. Why don't you guys talk about freakin' Limp Bizkit.. now -there- is a band to rip on. Jeezus Chryst.

Love, Ravenna

Amir *is* really hot for a 45 year old with a bunch of make up on trying to fit in with the kids.

chaki, Monday, 14 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

May I interject as The Gloved One in this Beat It Video of a thread?

Have any of you guys heard the rest of that eponymous Orgy record? I'm very curious, because I haven't. And you know, that "Blue Monday" cover has really grown on me. It kinda melds the worlds of poofy pop glam and the Wax Trax sound, which isn't done enough. If the rest of the album is similar in style to the "Blue Monday" cover, I'd love to hear it.

Brian MacDonald, Monday, 14 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

And Amir Derakh is a really great name. Sorry Kris.

Remind me again why you're complaining in detail.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I'm ranting.. 'cause I'm defending them. It only makes sense.

Ravenna St. Clair, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Rejoice. Orgy's disappearance from popular view is the most persuasive proof yet that not only does God exist: He is kind, and dislikes bad music as much as we do.

I'm ranting.. 'cause I'm defending them. It only makes sense.

I feel much better now.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

'god' does not exist. (But that's a -totally- different subject..)

Orgy is -still- popular. They still have lots of fans. They are just not shitty mainstream like you people probably like. Ew.

Someone alert Tanya Headon. I think we found her long lost twin sister.

What the fuck are you faggets ripping on Orgy for? I'm with Ravenna here, don't criticize people that are just making good music. I hope Mike Tyson eats all your children, fuckers.

Tony, Wednesday, 16 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Jeez. I'd hate to think what sort of flotsam this board would attract if we started ripping on Placebo or the Smashing Pumpkins..

It's Raggett, two 't's, please. As to why, I think your answer actually provides part of the explanation.

I'm with Ravenna here, don't criticize people that are just making good music.

Your comments have been noted by the management.

I hope Mike Tyson eats all your children, fuckers.

Hm. I give that a 3.7.

Aw, it's so sad. Signed to a major label only six months after forming in 1997, then that nasty piracy ruined the sales of their second record. Now they want $100,000 to release two eps? GTFO

I already copped to liking them, but that's some assholery.

is it bad form or not to note all the spelling mistakes in that spiel, given that it's essentially a covering letter

what finally did it was hearing "opticon" play over the valentine's day party in the slasher movie valentine, that song is a total jam

the album is a little long in a 2001 kind of way but they nail this sound throughout and nothing strikes me as bad

such a rad and weird single... nu-metal's relationship with industrial rock was more implied than realized except with these guys and like contemporaneous fear factory records, but it is such a rad sound, all these weird detuned guitar lines like bending light trails through a techno-industrial cityscape.... more nu-metal should've taken from gary numan as well

iirc i requested that song at a middle school dance. i'm cool

It showed up as a b-side to the "Blue Monday" single (which I bought) and basically made me go "no matter what else this band does, they gave me this ferocious Thing I will treasure forever"

i would cut "chasing sirens" but only for time, not bc it's a bad song

very obsessed with this record again lol, i gradually ended up rejecting it as a teen bc the lyrics came off to me as embarrassing cyberpunk nonsense... of course now i think that's fine and good

THIS song should've been a single

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 16 February 2021 18:32 (three years ago) link

there was also an inherent queerness in orgy's presentation + the intermittent references in the music to gender and androgyny, which may have been a total put-on but i appreciate it anyway

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 16 February 2021 18:39 (three years ago) link

I just realized that I think a lot about this album. Even though I haven't listened to it in years, the lyrics will pop into my head fairly regularly. Not sure what that says about me, but it definitely left an impression.
