Mark - it's slightly different, perhaps ever so slightly inferior... although I only say that because they extend that synth-guitar solo from its interlude right through to the end, which means it overshadows slightly my favourite riff in the whole track which comes in near the end.

Luckily there's "Could Be Like This", which is like "The Present Lover" mark 2 (slightly less vocals) and is possibly (gasp) BETTER.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 31 July 2003 00:58 (twenty years ago) link

Well I downloaded it but it has the copy-protection bleeps (I've never run accross these before) -- there's 12 hours down the drain. I hope it comes out on CD in the States eventually.

Anyway, I love it. Not sure yet how I would rank it next to Vocalcity but v. nice.

Sure Adam!

Mutualism reports a new Luomo album in the works for 2006. Plus Vocalcity is being reissued this year on his own label as all Force stuff is out of print.

not from the music. i think i heard this on here so it could be nonsense.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 15 August 2005 21:34 (eighteen years ago) link

not from the music.

I read this as meaning you'd heard he was loaded from LISTENING to the music!

Does he have a song about being loaded? With breathy cut up vocals and an echoey Maurizio-indebted bassline?

No! :(

I ordered it from Other Music but they took three weeks to tell me they didn't stock it. I'm hoping to find it when I'm in London and Berlin next month. It is absolutely TOP of my list.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Monday, 15 August 2005 22:09 (eighteen years ago) link

oh hell. anyway, the new cover looks way more like Master of Reality than the Manics cover. though it's nowhere near as good as the original.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Monday, 15 August 2005 22:15 (eighteen years ago) link

yeah that re-issue cover is very disappointing. i assumed Vlad was quite deeply into the aesthetics/ graphics of the whole thing. maybe it's an anti design move? the cover reminds me of Omni trio "The Deepest Cut Volume 1" more than anything else.

no.

my friend sent me a luomo track called "mirrorball" which is real nice, i don't know if its on an album i don't have or what

the only other album by him i like as much as vocalcity is vladislav delay - the four quarters which is not really dance music of course

ciderpress, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 02:19 (sixteen years ago) link

i still like present lover more than vocalcity

deej, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 07:30 (sixteen years ago) link

I got a mint copy of Vocalcity for £6 second hand a month ago!

I MUCH prefer it to Present Lover, but it has so much bass the needle literally jumps out of the groove on my nice turntable. Have to put the tracking force to about 3 to get it to play. Sounds great, though.

(I don't think that's why it was only 6 pounds, as it plays fine on cheap direct drive turntable)

Dear listener,

To bring some emotional rescue in these difficult times we have released a 20th anniversary of Luomo "Vocalcity", remastered and with the original artwork again, triple vinyl in deep blue color. There's a limited edition 300 copies pressing available on Boomkat now.

Stay strong.

An early internet search for Vocalcity was my first contact with ILM. It took me a lol of a long time to find site new answers. I swear that I thought ILM was just one thread (not this one, I don't think) about Luomo's Vocalcity for months after that.

It took me a decade since the first time I ever heard it, but I’ve finally realized The Right Wing is an extraordinarily strong track. I used to think it was the album’s dullest moment, but now I’m realizing just how strong that beat is!
