How did you settle on your Jane? Did you draw lots?

N., Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

This is easy - attractIVE to everyone. Being attracted to people is a big hassle in the end. The harder q. is 'would you rather be attracted to nobody or attractive to nobody?'

Archel, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Attracted to nobody. That way you'd be all aloof snooty and eh......dying alone. Or you could have a sham marriage.

Ronan, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

She worked harder than the others.

Ally C, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Archel, the point is that there are a lot of mentalist stalker types in the world and to have them all after you would be a pain in the arse. Yes, being attracted to them wouldn't be great either but it wouldn't matter so much cause you'd also be attracted just as much to all the well-adjusted nice people so your BRANE could make a sensible choice.

However, your alternative question is interesting. I'd probably go with 'attracted to nobody' as long as it didn't mean 'repulsed by' instead. And it would make a big difference whether you mean just 'sexually attracted' or 'bothered about at

N., Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

all'.

N., Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

But it is not like being a celebrity who is seen all over the papers by mentalists. Of the relatively few people who would see me, only some would be mentalists and even fewer would be able to find out where I lived/worked/shopped etc. I think.

And I would choose to be attracted to nobody, too. The alternative would be just TOO crushing.

Archel, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

If you're actually not attracted to ANYONE, how would this affect your enjoyment of the meaningless flings you might have? Eh sorry to bring things to the lowest common denominator.

Ronan, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I wouldn't have any flings. I would read books and improve my mind instead. And wank.

Archel, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I was about to ask about who but I suppose wanking goes beyond the realms of actual attraction

Ronan, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Well, right now I don't find anyone attractive, nor does anyone find me attractive. So I think I'd rather have everyone think I'm super hot, and things can just remain the same with me thinking nearly everyone looks the same. I am narcissistic. And selfish.

Mandee, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I thought everyone was attracted to me. (LOL)

Deadman, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Oh, much rather be attractive than attracted. Even if on the condition that I couldn't be attracted to anyone... imagine all the adoration and fanning... sure, aside from the occasional creepy person, I think it would be a blast.

Attracted to everyone? Hasn't everyone on this list been this person once before? Didn't it just suck beyond belief?

Brian MacDonald, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I'd rather be attractivated!

jel --, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I'd rather be a tractor.

Brian MacDonald, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

is that an "ERSK ATSY CAN TRACTOR" Brian?

jel --, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

If you're actually not attracted to ANYONE, how would this affect your enjoyment of the meaningless flings you might have? Eh sorry to bring things to the lowest common denominator.

Coolly assess your flings as to how well they perform in bed. Harsh, but since for too long I've felt as if nobody was or ever could be attracted to me, the reverse right now looks appealing.

j.lu, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I would like someone to develop a film script from the 'peer to peer loveworking' world where everyone is both attractive, and attracted, to everyone else. I'd like to see if there was indeed no love without loss and pain, and whether jealousy would rule in this world.

Would it be 'What's New Pussycat' or 'Barbarella'? Or perhaps a Jack Smith, Shuji Terayama or Andy Warhol film?

Momus, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Actually you wouldn't need a script at all. You'd just need to film the actors arriving in the studio:

'Darling, lovely to see you!' 'Darling! Hugs! Mmmwhuh!' Etc.

Momus, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Then there'd be a much darker sequel: 'Peer To Peer Loveworking II: Blood Vengeance'

Momus, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

one year passes...
My 3,250th revival of a long-forgotten thread, it feels like.

I'd rather be attractive to every male in the world. And to some women, too. I think it'd make a change, really. At least I currently have the ability to see at least one positive thing about someone's physical appearance should that someone turn out to be a decent individual.

God. To be able to turn heads would be a power most intoxicating, indeed.

Dee the Lurker (Dee the Lurker), Saturday, 7 June 2003 09:09 (twenty years ago) link

I have this condition. Let me tell you, it's overrated. People are so freaked out by the fact they're attracted to you that they make a point of ignoring you, or even pretending to dislike you.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Saturday, 7 June 2003 09:30 (twenty years ago) link

I'm attracted to some and would like to be attractive to ppl i was attracted too.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 7 June 2003 11:39 (twenty years ago) link

I wouldn't mind knowing for sure if I was attractive to *anyone*! (With a couple of wretched exceptions whose opinion doesn't count.)

ChristineSH (chrissie1068), Saturday, 7 June 2003 12:03 (twenty years ago) link

What Christine said.

caitlin (caitlin), Saturday, 7 June 2003 12:49 (twenty years ago) link

i love you all!

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Saturday, 7 June 2003 14:07 (twenty years ago) link

that said either would be really annoying and would detract from the excitement, magic and all-round damned good fun of being attracted to someone and then discovering that the feeling's mutual... despite the fact that i can always use more female admirers as a currently single guy, i'm happy as i am

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Saturday, 7 June 2003 14:09 (twenty years ago) link

I got Pokemon Sapphire today, so I really don't care.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 7 June 2003 14:16 (twenty years ago) link

I'd mostly rather be attractive to Johnny Deep, really, anyway... but I don't own any angora sweaters. :)

ChristineSH (chrissie1068), Saturday, 7 June 2003 14:45 (twenty years ago) link

Yay! A fellow fan of Ed Wood! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 7 June 2003 14:48 (twenty years ago) link

I saw the trailer for Pirates of the Carribean earlier, Johnny looks like Rob Zombie! ha!

Don't tempt me.

Nicole (Nicole), Saturday, 7 June 2003 19:33 (twenty years ago) link

I would rather women felt attracted to me than I to them.Though I would like to fancy some of them...

N. Ron, Saturday, 7 June 2003 19:33 (twenty years ago) link

I lived in the Dominican Republic for a short time and could not leave my front door without getting whistles, comments, declarations of love, etc. Voluminous clothing and covered legs did me no good. I could have been hideously ugly and gotten the same attention--it was just the culture, and the novelty of my pale skin. The admiration felt less valid that way.

Usually, I don't know whether men typically find me attractive, but when they do, I'm complimented. It would be nice to be considered especially attractive, but I suppose it would depend on how it was expressed. I wouldn't really want to deal with pigs/assholes/stalkers.

It would drive me nuts to be attracted to all guys.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Saturday, 7 June 2003 20:12 (twenty years ago) link

I like Julios answer - I'd like it if I was attractive to the people I'm attracted to. But that of course can't happen. I can't even think how it'd logically work. Still...

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 7 June 2003 23:53 (twenty years ago) link

"Johnny Deep" = classic typo

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Sunday, 8 June 2003 01:52 (twenty years ago) link

Of course, we're all trapped, because now we must all follow through with N's request to be attractive to and attracted to MANWOMEN!

''I like Julios answer - I'd like it if I was attractive to the people I'm attracted to. But that of course can't happen.''

''I can't even think how it'd logically work. Still...''

Logic isn't my strong point. still, the q's appaling grammar construction deserved it ;-)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 8 June 2003 09:30 (twenty years ago) link

Heh. I wasn't neccesarily saying your logic was flawed :) Just that, if everyone was liked by whom they liked, wouldn't everyone like everyone else? *brain breaks*

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 8 June 2003 09:44 (twenty years ago) link

i would rather be attracted to everyone in the world than attractive to them. its a question of: wanking lots vs lots of people thinking of you when they wank. oh ewww.

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 8 June 2003 09:50 (twenty years ago) link

''Just that, if everyone was liked by whom they liked, wouldn't everyone like everyone else?''

*computes equations into brane* um, not necessarily.

''i would rather be attracted to everyone in the world than attractive to them. its a question of: wanking lots vs lots of people thinking of you when they wank. oh ewww.''

well you see if you're attracted to everyone then wouldn't it be difficult to 'get it out of yr system' if you were thinking of everyone. you could nevah concentrate surely on the job 'at hand'. you'd waste so much of yr time.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 8 June 2003 12:05 (twenty years ago) link

Oh, wow, that typo's made me flush a bit.

SHIT!

whoa nice tiping yo

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 9 June 2003 00:28 (twenty years ago) link

Actually I'd rather be attracted to no one as well. Why can't I live that Taoist philosophy I always wank on about and just be and not feel so attached to things and people. Just for once, I'd love to not care, but still be happy.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 9 June 2003 01:45 (twenty years ago) link

Why can't one be both?

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Monday, 9 June 2003 01:54 (twenty years ago) link

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Monday, 9 June 2003 04:05 (twenty years ago) link

And guess what? I was ego-surfing last night!

What did I find? That someone with my name who looks like Melanie C with shorter hair works for Glamour Model Talent, Inc. And we're the same height. All my other measurements are bigger, though, cuz I'm a fat pig. Anyway, isn't that dreadfully fascinating and informative?

Or not.
