I imagine that if George S. Kaufman had ever gotten around to translating Faust it would have been pretty great.

IMHO, the one that Stuart Atkins did for the Suhrkamp edition is the best.

Nice review of something like the equivalent of Boswell's biography of Johnson, except not as good.
