he's dropped the stupid band name and is releasing an album under his pseudonym. the mp3 is not bad!http://www.matadorrecords.com/matablog/2009/06/24/coming-october-20-spiral-stairs-the-real-feel/

"Went with 'kennel district'" - must've thought I was voting for best? But apparently didn't vote anyway.

Who'd have thunk that one of the best rock albums of 2017 would be by this guy? What the shit happened?
― Shat Parp (dog latin), Friday, 12 May 2017 13:30 (seven years ago) link
Hmmm... I watched a video all the way thru, the subject matter being Scott at a laundromat interacting with some ķinda tough-guy guy, and the song I found only mildly interesting, very much of the quality I expected from the first PSOI record which I never heard. I remember that what the song lacked in melody, it made up wits a charming, spare, idiosyncratic instrumentation.

Hold on, people actually think Date with Ikea's the worst one here? That's one of pavements best songs
― josh az (2011nostalgia), Friday, 12 May 2017 19:46 (seven years ago) link
Yeah, "Doris and the Daggers" is really good!
― geoffreyess, Friday, 12 May 2017 19:59 (seven years ago) link
Two States is the most ludicrous and painfully obvious Fall rip ever put to tape. At least that I've heard. He should be ashamed of himself. It's one thing to let your influences show through, but that thing is truly next level. In the worst sense. No wonder MES hates them. Though really that's not so hard to do and they've plenty of company. Still...

date w ikea is good!
― constitutional crises they fly at u face (will), Friday, 12 May 2017 20:14 (seven years ago) link
yeah Date W/ Ikea with 3 votes here is the new worst thing on ILM
(i would've voted for Your Time To Change)
― alpine static, Saturday, 13 May 2017 00:31 (seven years ago) link
"Fame Throwa" and "Conduit for Sale" are huge Fall ripoffs too!
― Mr. Snrub, Saturday, 13 May 2017 00:38 (seven years ago) link
This times infinity. Those responsible should come forward to be fp'd properly. Huge song.

Hmm tbh I can't even remember how any of these songs go apart from Kennel District and Date W/ Ikea which I do like. I guess I don't like Spiral Stairs' songs much.

"Date" is a highlight on Brighten for sure.
After like seven times of suffering through "Hit the Plane Down" (when I was too lazy to skip it), I started liking it in that bizarre Stockton Syndrome way that sometimes happens with songs. (Phone auto corrected Stockholm, but seems appropriate to leave it)
― Vinnie, Saturday, 13 May 2017 01:01 (seven years ago) link
I've got a version of Plane taken from a scratched-up CD. Holds up pretty good!
― pplains, Saturday, 13 May 2017 01:37 (seven years ago) link
Hear it for yourself!
― pplains, Saturday, 13 May 2017 01:42 (seven years ago) link
"Stockton Syndrome" would be a great title for a Pavement bootleg
― goodoldneon, Saturday, 13 May 2017 01:43 (seven years ago) link
Yes Shrub you are correct. But Two States even mentions "the north" ala the early mes cliche and a woefully affected vocal approximation. I do like the intentionally ugly guitar solo though.

Sorry, Snrub. I meant. F-ing pad changed it on me.

Give me a moment to relish the irony of Kannberg autographing a copy of Terror Twilight (of all possible Pavement albums) and selling it with digital copies of his solo record on Pledge Music.

echoing love for Date with Ikea, beautiful song. much needed break from Malkmus
