Well, I saw "them" live, and was definitely disappointed.

They were advertised as "The Castanets." There was only one of them, though. The rest were spread out all over the country. Instead of watching The Castanets, I only watched the lead singing castanet. It was definitely a disappointment due to the blatant false advertising, but eh, it was worth the $5 I spent. Especially considering the two other bands I saw with them.

The CD is good. It doesn't make a huge lasting impression though. I don't throw it on very often.

I saw several Castanets a few months ago. They were sort of soporific, but interesting, too. They had an old guy on the side playing super-breathy saxophone flourishes, seemingly improvised. I don't know if he's with them all the time or not.

I love the record. Some great folk tunes.

Just listen to their free MP3.

That's my favorite song on the album. Just listen to that song and ask yourself, "Do I want to spend about ten bucks on an album with about ten other songs that sound pretty much like this?" The song is pretty indicative of what the rest of the album sounds like. There's no big hidden surprises there.

I like the record. It's not COMPELLING, but it's decent and kind of dark. If you like folk/americana it's better than average. oo-la-la, I think I will go see them..

Ray Raposa has passed. Numerous memories being posted, thus:
