my favorite by 5000% is Mambo -- does anyone not love this record? it's one of those records that just makes everything immediately better the second it's on.

but Miracles is very different and kinda cool... neat to hear her singing over heavy psych & blues guitars. the music's a very square & tame version of psyche pop, and the melodies aren't that distinctive, but yma always sounds fantastic, and it's nice to hear her singing into insane amounts of reverb & delay

:) It seems I almost always agree with everything milton parker posts here. I should just give up and stop posting.

i have Voice of Xtabay but that's it. luv it though. That Mambo looks unbelievable. to the want list it goes..

It's her party record. She sounds particularly out of her mind on it...

actually checking out Miracles again a bit, 'tree of life' & 'flame tree' are very cool... it's only the opening track that's really heavy, the rest of it is much more casual & groovy... yeah this record works. she always sounds great.

she toured about six or seven years ago, and I didn't go -- what a fool

i got "miracles" on a cd with 101 strings "astro sounds from beyond the year 2000." best $20 i ever spent. the great thing about the yma tracks is that i find myself walking around singing the ridiculous "whoa whoa whoa whoa, wah wah whoa whoa" bits out loud.

flame tree is pretty cool, yea. i like looking around best i think

Oddly my library has tons of Yma Sumac, and I've never borrowed any. I guess I should. I did hear some a long while back and didn't like it much, but it was a long while back.

i almost caught her live awhile back too but i would've been a long drive. "voice of the xtabay" is the one i really like, but "mambo" has some good stuff too.

Wow am I ever glad this lady has come up. Now that's a record in my collection (Voice of the Xtabay) I never expected to even THINK about again. Yes I would love to hear Miracles!!

I was listening to some Yma Sumac song a few months ago and my mother heard the entirety of it while she was sorting out her closet and she said, "The music's great but her voice is terrible." WHAT?

Salvatore Principato of Liquid Liquid said she was his biggest vocal influence. That's pretty awesome.

Monos is the track I have always loved. Think it's on Voice Of The Xtabay.

Goddess. Nice recent story about the many myths of Yma Sumac: On the trail of Yma Sumac: The exotica legend came from Peru, but her career was all Hollywood

There's a new 3cd out through Cherry Red that includes at least 6 of her lps in entirety and I think plus some other stuff. I have been wondering how good it sounds. Cos I was going to grab it if I saw it in London then didn't see it.

Do have a 2cd set that does include Monos thankfully. That was the track I always fancied working up a version of or based on if I got a band together. Then never got a band together.

Need to find out if Amy camus is as much of a myth as what it thought it was dispelling.

& it was the copy of the 78s album of Voice of the Xtababay that taught me not to use vinyl cleaner on shellac cos it's not surface dirt that comes off but the actual surface.
