Is this supposed to create a TROJAN when clicked? My firewall would like to know?

Hmm, if you copy/paste the link it doesn't work but if you type it in it does. Fascinating. Sorry, go ahead.

Try; I-F - Space Invaders Are Smoking Grass

mmmm, Friday, 17 February 2012 16:51 (twelve years ago) link

Try other stuff on the Clone label - Alden Tyrell and Murphy Jax....

mmmm, Friday, 17 February 2012 16:55 (twelve years ago) link

there is no other stuff in this vein. legowelt is a singular artist, possessed of a unique artistic vision, who rises above the morass of dull, stagnant untz untz untz music like a dolphin leaping from a calm, tropical sea

the late great, Friday, 17 February 2012 16:57 (twelve years ago) link

it's in the same vein as a lot of the original techno by Saunderson, Atkins, and May (Model 500, Rhythim is Rhythim, Cybotron etc). Also check out the Virgo album on Trax

mizzell, Friday, 17 February 2012 16:58 (twelve years ago) link

Virgo is housier but has a similar vibe imo

mizzell, Friday, 17 February 2012 16:59 (twelve years ago) link

I'd try other tracks on the L.I.E.S. label, Steve Summers and aliases (Confused House, Rhythm Based Lovers), some of the stuff on the hipster house thread (just ignore all the handwringing and skip to the music recs.)

I've had the Teac Life for a while, but it's hitting hard for me this week. This guy has so much material and quite often overly prolific artists can be discouraging in the sense that you have no idea where to start, or you get the feeling they are releasing everything and their quality control will be sloppy. But I'm going through his stuff on Spotify and pretty much everything is great.

To upper mississippi sh@kedown who was asking what kind of techno Legowelt is: "Raw as fuck autistic Star Trek 1987 - Misty Forests- X-FILES - DETROIT unicorn futurism made on cheap-ass digital & analog crap synthesizers recorded in a ragtag bedroom studio on a TEAC VHX cassettedeck in DOLBY C with an unintelligible yet soulfull vivacity"

Interesting question about what kind of music Legowelt is. There’s very definitely a Hague/Bunker sound which he comes from so check that out. People like $tinkworx, or perhaps Orgue Electronic. A good mix of this stuff by TLR gives a good introduction: https://soundcloud.com/cremeorganization/the-hague-is-the-plague-20

Gutted that video above doesn’t appear to work. From what I can gather the scene this stuff came out of was the kind of traveller/biker crew that in the UK may have made awful acid techno and psy trance, but over there listened to electro and italo disco. My knowledge is very limited though.

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 00:17 (eleven years ago) link

Legowelt definitely has more jack than some of the others though. The first time I heard this Chicago track I thought it might have been Legowelt:

I'm very much a dilettante in club music but I listen to the RA podcast a lot and the Legowelt mix was totally great so I've been grabbing mixes of his from all over. latest of late passes but man this dude can make a seriously engrossing mix and has so much stuff

nice mix, thanks

and the tracklist is at this gloriously retro gradient-shaded-ascii-tastic webzine (which I haven't read yet aside from the tracklisting, just marvelled at the colours of): http://www.legowelt.org/shadowwolfissue3.html

There are more episodes out there if you dig around.
