and yes, i know. it's spelled like that on both the cover and the spine so i assume it's not an error. 'killing that which is the same' would be one possible interpretation, and a likely one given mike's idealogical leanings.

i was going to buy it already, but ethan really sold me on it describing one track as "can's 'paperhouse' with mc-ing."

I got the vinyl just the other day, cept it most definitely says HOMICIDE on it, and has a live-type photo on the cover. It's all great, partcularly the mentalist one with the pitched up soul vocal.

the 10" isn't the same album as the cd release.

he's also working on 'majesticons', the sequel to the infesticons project. he's apparently breaking his back trying to get the 'jiggy' sound down pat...

Okay, Negrophilia was supposed to come out TODAY, yet still no evidence of it online (I'll check the store tonight). Of course the only Thirsty Ear release I'm still excited about would be the one that mysteriously never gets released.

The last few songs on Vernacular Homocide (CD vers) are really great creeped-out late night driving music.

One of my friends is friends with Mike, and he made the new one sound pretty cool. Apparently Mike wrote the tunes, gave them to the Thirsty Ear crew to record, then took their recordings and re-fucked them up himself (as opposed to the El-P method of making a couple of loops, letting the jazz musicians noodle over them and slapping your name on the record).

And it should be pretty good if he's been working on it for 2 1/2 + YEARS.

"Foxwoods" is a beautiful song.

Stopped at the record store during lunch, no trace (and they order all the Thirsty Ear releases). Aargh.

And another release date come and gone.

So, Negrophilia is finally out. It has some moments, but I'm largely underwhelmed. Everything I've heard from Nostalgiator hits harder, and themes/hooks are largely non-existent. I've only listened to it once or twice though.

Arat Kilo — Toulo
Arat Kilo’s third album, entitled Visions Of Selam, is a wish for universal peace. Selam means Peace in Amharic. But it’s also the name of the Australopithecus fossil discovered in Afar. What would this individual, born 3 million years ago, think of this world? Malian singer Mamani Keita and rapper Mike Ladd join the Paris-based ethio-groove band Arat Kilo in their quest to explore this theme in their signature ethio-jazz style by blending in Mandinka vocals, rap, afrobeat, groove, dub & more.
