"Hurrah! ;)" - Ned

dean! (deangulberry), Saturday, 10 April 2004 20:35 (twenty years ago) link

I enjoyed their sound check more than their actual show when I saw them play.

Chris F. (servoret), Sunday, 11 April 2004 06:59 (twenty years ago) link

i think there's already a thread or two floating around out there...

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 11 April 2004 15:31 (twenty years ago) link

Maybe they don't need one?

Mark (MarkR), Sunday, 11 April 2004 17:11 (twenty years ago) link

they're slightly better than I Am The World Trade Center, but not much

the surface noise (electricsound), Sunday, 11 April 2004 21:37 (twenty years ago) link

I saw 'em live in Boston once. Cute band. I used "C'est La Mort" in a student film once. Can't say any of their albums strike me as crucial but they'd have a decent "hits" comp.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 11 April 2004 22:20 (twenty years ago) link

i have a lot of great memories associated with "jukebox alarm"

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 11 April 2004 22:22 (twenty years ago) link

That song "Holiday Innn" is pure pop genius. Grotty key sound, craptacular beat, sexy lyrics/delivery that aren't too overplayed, and a chorus that sounds like it was shouted by a squad of slutty French cheerleaders who barely stopped smoking in time to make it to the mic for their cue.

Lee G (Lee G), Monday, 12 April 2004 14:12 (twenty years ago) link

"crazy horse" is purer pop genius though

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 12 April 2004 21:10 (twenty years ago) link

they're slightly better than I Am The World Trade Center, but not much

madness

keith m (keithmcl), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 03:22 (twenty years ago) link

One of those bands you love the first time you hear them, but get sick of real quick.

David Allen (David Allen), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 03:24 (twenty years ago) link

pure pop genius, full stop.

tiiiiiiiiiim (tiiiiiiiiiim), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 03:29 (twenty years ago) link

I bought this sweet 'Holiday Inn' 2x7" set which drips with pure fun when on my speakers, so for that alone I love them.

Barima (Barima), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 12:32 (twenty years ago) link

I really love the raw punk-pop energy of their early releases. They sound vibrant! I don't consider the famous Momus' claim that S-T were the best band in the world an exageration. They still probably are.

daavid (daavid), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 23:39 (twenty years ago) link

La Musique Automatique is all I need to listen to ever.

eight months pass...
"Do the Bambi" comes out on January 25th. I'm relatively excited for 3 to 5 very fun pop songs.

Matt Boch (Matt Boch), Friday, 24 December 2004 15:01 (nineteen years ago) link

goody for you. it will be fantastic, of course, thoguh i am not sure i approve of more songs in english for the americans.

keith m (keithmcl), Friday, 24 December 2004 15:53 (nineteen years ago) link

I was supposed to write a song for it but couldn't be arsed. Or rather, I think I didn't want an album from the best band in the world spoiled by having one of my compositions on it.

Momus (Momus), Sunday, 26 December 2004 01:23 (nineteen years ago) link

two years pass...

I kinda gave up on them, but I'm tempted to pick up the new one. Any insight?

baaderonixx, Thursday, 18 October 2007 12:27 (sixteen years ago) link

First listen says that it's pretty good, in line w/the reviews I've read.

dlp9001, Thursday, 18 October 2007 13:49 (sixteen years ago) link

have not heard it, read no reviews, i suspect that it's brilliant

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:00 (sixteen years ago) link

A new one? I hadn't even heard about this. Is it out on vinyl/in the UK?

emil.y, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:03 (sixteen years ago) link

'Paris-Berlin'. I think it's been out for a while. P'fork hails it as a "return to form" and, after the disappointment of 'Do the Bambi', I'm ready to believe.
