Yeah, Earlimart is cool. My band opened for them a few months ago, and they were all super-nice to boot.

I've reviewed Earlimart's last two records (the EP and the full-length) and they took the time to e-mail and thank me for the reviews, so yeah, decent foax indeed.

I really like this band's stuff.

I saw elefant recently; crowd was about 25 but this is not a big city. I liked the way it sounded but I couldn't understand the lyrics. The drummer was really really good. The lead singer worked it, which I always appreciate esp considering the small crowd, and he fills a pair of jeans nicely.

wow what a flashback. carissa's weird are now the hugely huge band of horses. grandaddy got big after this, went away forever, then came back...and then a death shut them down. and earlimart, who I was always certain would break, I think never ever got big but might still be around.

Wow, I loved Everyone Down Here when it first came out. Talk about a blast from the past. 'We Drink on the Job' was quite an infectious little riffy thing.

he doesn't need to be racist about it though. (Austin), Tuesday, 13 February 2018 02:54 (six years ago) link

Thanks to the revive, did a search for Carissa's Wierd (the band spelled it wrong on purpose) and found two tracks from 2011 on Bandcamp. Loved the band in the day. Still do, and glad to find two tracks I haven't heard. Saw them open for Wheat, and loved the pairing. "Boring as all hell" - one man's poison, I guess. CW's violin, musical build and ebbs, and quiet vocals are wonderful to my ears. Besides Band of Horses, Jenn Champion (nee Ghetto) has released some good stuff as S, including the Chris Walla produced _Cool Choices_.

I think Carissa's were a lot more interesting than Band of Horses.

Also I like some of Sera Cahoone's solo stuff from recent years...

more love for carissas. they were cream of the crop when it came to sadcore. i love playing violin along to them. 'you should be at home here' is very consistent and even their b sides and covers were lovely and full of personality. i hear they were a good laugh and not moody at all offstage.

revisiting everyone down here for its 20th birthday. probably haven't heard it in 19 years. it's really good! their earlier material -iirc- was a lot noisier and fucked up and this album was like the shift from b+w to color. the usual turn of the century indie touchstones are all still relevant: "oh they must really dig pet sounds!", squalling feedback meets 70s pop piano because sure we can do that, "oh it's kinda dream poppy in places, isn't it?", etc etc.

it was right around the same time that i started working at tower records and someone hipped me to a charalambides cassette. earlimart seemed quaint by comparison and i never looked back. dunno why that sticks out to me, but anyway. they were good... too bad a lotta that palm pictures stuff is in limbo presently. wonder where the main dude fron the band ended up.
