I'm ignoring all pre-Beatles bands in order to allow a bit more freshness in my TOP 15 AMERICAN ARTISTS OF ALL TIME (WOO WOO WOO!). I'm counting Neil Young cuz he's done all of his rockin' in the US, NOT Canada. And I am NOT replacing Prince with the B-52's (despite Cosmic Thing being one of the best albums of all time). Unlike my last list, these are not in any particular order.

Elvis is extremely overrated. And there wasn't a lot of great music before The Beatles at all. Most of the best American music hails either from the Californian golden age (Beach Boys, Turtles, Mamas & The Papas), from powerpop or from the current wave of underground psychedelic pop
