"are you saying 'The Burial' makes you cry?"

the Copacabana vocals get me every time.

that Carl Craig track is great, he didn't do enough tracks in that style, or not that i've heard. I reckon he sounds a bit like Carl Craig.

so Sean Paul "Ever-Blazing"

Duplex 'Late Night Cycling' is wistful brooding nostalgic luxury...i'd like to cry to it but i actually cannot, still its worth mentioning in the same breath as the other tracks i already posted

stevem (blueski), Monday, 2 June 2003 19:27 (twenty years ago) link

Haha typical, I was just thinking about that Duplex song on the thread on "songs about cycling". I just love that tune, it lives up to its title in a magnificent way. Crystal clear, nocturnal synths washing in and out with a light, steady cycling-tempo underneath. It's incredibly powerful yet so lightfooted that the emotion doesn't feel forced at all.

Me too...but it doesn't help there are about six other Duplexes around.

Everything But The Girl Missing is of course a classic one.

X has a song called "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes" too.

Much of ETBG fits this category, especially "Wrong".

Also, "Touched" by VAST, which probably isnt meant to be sad but always moves me in that manner while I'm poncing about on the dancefloor.

section 25 - looking from a hilltop

any number of New Order songs

Nightcrawlers 'Push The Feeling On' originally seemed like quite a sad subdued anthem, then it became a huge hit but going back to it now it still retains a similar poignancy to classics such as the aforementioned Nightcrawlers and Frankie Knuckles

stevem (blueski), Monday, 2 June 2003 22:32 (twenty years ago) link

The recent JCA remix of Push the Feeling On makes it more melancholic, I think. Oh, and the instrumental of the Royksopp remix of Weak Become Heroes.

ultracynic - nothing lasts forever

I'm gonna think hard before I contribute here - tears on the dancefloor is, like, one of the reigning critical concepts in my world.

You could start with RJ Project's "What Colour Is Love (Red Jerry's Monkeyhouse Mix)" from the Le Future Le Funk comp, though.
