is that the punk being played at the wedding. i kind of like it actually, because the punk music and the music that 'should' have been played can both be located in the same time frame, so they don't seem opposites at all, but kindred spirits that don't realise it...

The odd thing it is the oppositeness of Evergreen (which no couple would actually have as their first dance at a wedding for a least a year) and The White Stripes - coupled with the bizarre home movie (as opposed to video) grain of the film which sets the whole piece thirty years ago.

And if they only played what they liked on 6 music why do they have a playlist?

There's diff. edits of this promo - in one, the DJ keeps nodding his head when he plays the White Stripes, it looks like he thinks it's going down v. well w/ the crowd, which is sort've of a metaphor for Radio 6 or something (ie we only play 'good' music which actually almost nobody wants to hear - see also GLR back in the day - "we don't play dance we play Nick Lowe" etc.)

It's smug and annoying but I did enjoy one of the follow ups featuring a tiny child sliding across the dancefloor on his knees in the background. And I like the psychotic womang who beats up the DJ ha ha beware any DJs on this beeotch for I haf found a new role model ha ha!

There's a REALLY lame variation where NOTHING AT ALL happens after the White Stripes start playing. I think they show this one on Sundays. The worst thing about the original is it's a total rip-off of the fantastic "Love Stinks" scene in 'The Wedding Singer'.

Could they have the DJ look like any more of a tosser? I sense a director/crew not entirely happy with marketing's concept. And I'm always awed my quite how much damage that woman does - they've decided to smash an entire mobile DJ rig, not just turntables or record or whatever.

What Pete and Ed said. 6Music = the Uncut of radio, it might think it's exciting and cutting-edge but it's just Q and Mojo with a few more beards and cowboy hats. (Actually I haven't heard it - no digital radio - but the "what we play" bit on the website looks like such a wasted opportunity, yeah.) And the advert makes me run for the mute/off buttons every time. Grr. Snarl. Etc.

BUT IF ILX HAD A DIGITAL RADIO STATION... the ad would be something like: indieists getting married to the strains of Coldplay; DJ CoXoR cues up BRITNEY! Beano-style punch-up ensues.

OK no more seriously the point is that an ILX radio station wouldn't do that. The point of the advert isn't that the White Stripes are better than Gareth Gates, but that the cpl want one thing and the radio station decides that no they can't have it. That kind of we- know-what's-best attitude is pretty much at odds with the lets-argue- about-everything stance of ILX.

WHen you look at the discussion board on the six music site there are loads of messages having a go at Collins for playing a Public Enemy track. Sheesh.

I think wuv might be a bit strong for my appreciation of Yellow, but I certainly would play it on Radio ILX. Though there are probably about 2000 tracks I would play before it. And more importantly - I certainly wouldn't ask anyone else to play (with possibly the exception of Tanya cos its all the same to her and she'll only be slagging the tunes off).

The PE posts were about three weeks ago (anlong with the 6 Music not following up on their punk weekender cos Queen Mum poopped her clogs) - in the mists of message board time I couldn't be arsed to find it. I listened to it about two weeks ago (I-net Radio at work) and Liz Kershaw i even worse now than she was back in the day. Her Lloyd Cole (!) interview was excrable.

I would say they were mutually sustaining. My point is that sneering at Q readers, an established ILX sport, is no more edifying than Q fans sneering at Smash Hits readers.

Yeah but the point is that not everyone on ILX sneers at Q Readers. So we argue about it.

As for when Freaky Trigger, say, has a go at people for attacking pop it's not that we think it's bad to attack people in general (or "sneer at" people if you want to stick with that loaded term), it's that we think they're wrong about pop.

Come on has anyone seen that 6Music playlist its crap Sheryl Awful Crow, Stereocrapophonics, Crappy Temple Clause sounding like orrible Oasis gone more rawk, Badly Drawn Boring, orribleHaven - even more boring the Travis, Hundred grunge-by-karaoke Reasons.

It's a Joke, there so much music released each week that does not get played - 6music like many other radio stations select their music from what ever pluggers/ major record companies promotions depts stick in front of them. Smaller independents cant afford pluggers - an the only way the get played if a: the presenter selects their own music ala Peel and John Kennedy - this country needs more maverick DJs and less lazy playlist crap.
