I can't quite believe I didn't vote for Acperience.

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 8 November 2004 14:07 (nineteen years ago) link

i left out Omni Trio and House Crew because i figured they were shoe-ins already.

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Monday, 8 November 2004 14:12 (nineteen years ago) link

i've re-found my votes, and as i imagined, i'm sure i'd re-order them differently today. i've got a few in that 51-100

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Monday, 8 November 2004 14:16 (nineteen years ago) link

I'll own up now that I put a Sonic Youth track at number one. Do you recken that is out of the top 100? Ah well...

I fear my crucial error was voting for "Scenario" near the bottom of my list. I bet it doesn't make it. :(

I suppose New Radicals isn't about to make it either :( :( :(

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Monday, 8 November 2004 15:05 (nineteen years ago) link

Did no one vote for Pepe Braddock's "Deep Burnt" ?

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 8 November 2004 15:27 (nineteen years ago) link

also, i still can't believe "Higher Than The Sun" wasn't nominated. major oversight and i feel just sick about it

rentboy (rentboy), Monday, 8 November 2004 15:39 (nineteen years ago) link

I think we shouldn't be posting our respective lists on this thread yet ... if enough people do so then it will start to ruin the surprise ...

Eight of mine have appeared so far, including three of my top ten. I guessed that between 18-21 songs on my list would end up in the final 100 so things are basically on schedule.

More than ever, I'm getting the feeling that Pulp dominated this poll.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 8 November 2004 15:39 (nineteen years ago) link

About 8 of my choices have placed so far. Bizarre that the 3 Saint Et songs I voted for should place consecutively.

Jeff W (zebedee), Monday, 8 November 2004 15:45 (nineteen years ago) link

Someone should maybe start a separate thread for people posting their individual lists, like last time.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 8 November 2004 15:49 (nineteen years ago) link

i think i deleted my copy of my ballot by accident :(

gear is there any way you can look up my ballot and tell me what i voted for???

artiste (artiste), Monday, 8 November 2004 16:00 (nineteen years ago) link

Someone should maybe start a separate thread for people posting their individual lists, like last time.
That would be good, then the people who don't want to partially spoil the surprise can avoid that thread until Friday.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 8 November 2004 16:03 (nineteen years ago) link

Aaliyah - "Are You That Somebody?"
Mariah Carey - "Vision Of Love"
Ice Cube - "It Was A Good Day"
New Radicals - "You Get What You Give"
Mary J. Blige - "Real Love"
Nirvana - Drain You
The Breeders - "Cannonball"
destiny's child - say my name
Nirvana - "Smells Like Teen Spirit"
Ol' Dirty Bastard - "Got Your Money"
White Town – “Your Woman”
Wu-Tang Clan - “C.R.E.A.M.”

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 8 November 2004 16:04 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm embarrassed by my list now, particularly because I forgot to include "Ride the train"

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Monday, 8 November 2004 16:12 (nineteen years ago) link

1. Omni Trio - "Renegade Snares (Foul Play VIP Mix)"
2. Geto Boys - "Mind Playing Tricks on Me"
3. Marvelous Cain – “The Hitman”
4. Mobb Deep – Shook Ones Pt II
5. Remarc - “RIP”
6. Dead Dred – “Dread Bass”
7. Aaliyah - "Are You That Somebody?"
8. Foul Play – “Open Your Mind”
9. Raekwon feat. Ghostface Killah & Nas - 'Verbal Intercourse'
10. Joey Beltram - "Energy Flash"

Only one of my top ten so far, but I figure Aaliyah, Beltram and Omni Trio are shoe ins.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 8 November 2004 16:17 (nineteen years ago) link

i kinda wish people would post their personal lists on another thread. this ones gonna be a glut as is.

seryusly, Monday, 8 November 2004 16:18 (nineteen years ago) link

And the Geto Boys, of course.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 8 November 2004 16:18 (nineteen years ago) link

teamwork! graci.

thank ya, Monday, 8 November 2004 16:30 (nineteen years ago) link

'this is hardcore' is not the best pulp single.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 8 November 2004 16:33 (nineteen years ago) link

there's still half a list to go, dude! i have a feeling more will come

patience, Monday, 8 November 2004 16:35 (nineteen years ago) link

NO MORE LISTS PLEASE!

jed_ (jed), Monday, 8 November 2004 16:37 (nineteen years ago) link

It is the best Pulp single, though.

jb, Monday, 8 November 2004 16:39 (nineteen years ago) link

I remember it as being a pretty disappointing single from a late follow up to their breakthrough album.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 8 November 2004 16:43 (nineteen years ago) link

Yes, well.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 8 November 2004 16:44 (nineteen years ago) link

ok, then.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 8 November 2004 16:46 (nineteen years ago) link

not knowing how much time I'll have during the day, I'll drop in the 50-46 now and the next five later...

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 8 November 2004 16:48 (nineteen years ago) link

i love these lists though they really make me wonder why i love ILM so much. My taste excludes very little but does pretty much exclude poppy dance and dancey pop as well as "clever" pop.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 8 November 2004 16:53 (nineteen years ago) link

#50

PULP - "Do You Remember the First Time?" (350 points, 22 votes)

http://www.mackers.com/pulpworld/pulp_rememberfirsttime.jpg

comments on this 'un?

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 8 November 2004 16:57 (nineteen years ago) link

If 'This Is Hardcore' is the eye of the storm, then 'Do You Remember The First Time?' is perhaps Pulp's eye of the duck.

"Oh Jesus it must be great, to be straight"

Alba (Alba), Monday, 8 November 2004 17:01 (nineteen years ago) link

(I think I prefer 'Lipgloss', but still)

Alba (Alba), Monday, 8 November 2004 17:02 (nineteen years ago) link

I actually think this is one of their weaker singles, but I must trumpet the BRILLIANCE of these lines, some of the very best Jarvis has ever written:
You say you've never been sure,
though it makes good sense for you to be together.
Still you bought a toy that can reach the places he never goes.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 8 November 2004 17:25 (nineteen years ago) link

Actually, the bitterness implicit in the casually tossed off "It makes good sense for you to live together" line is great, yeah. I think it's the chorus that lets it down, maybe. It never meant that much to me.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 8 November 2004 17:52 (nineteen years ago) link

(So far the best part of this thread is the bit upthread where half the readers were saying, "We shouldn't post lists to this thread" and the other half were all "HERE'S MY TOP TEN RANKED BY ABILITY TO MELT STILTON")

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 8 November 2004 18:12 (nineteen years ago) link

I really can't believe "C.R.E.A.M." was this low. It was my #2.

Mike O. (Mike Ouderkirk), Monday, 8 November 2004 18:15 (nineteen years ago) link

CREAM was in my top five, I think. "TROY" was my number two. Blah.

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Monday, 8 November 2004 18:39 (nineteen years ago) link

be grateful they're there at all, not sure mine will be

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Monday, 8 November 2004 18:49 (nineteen years ago) link

ditto (my top 5 at least, a good number of my picks have shown up)

miccio (miccio), Monday, 8 November 2004 20:18 (nineteen years ago) link

"Do You Remember the First Time?" is a great single but it might not even be one of their ten best of the decade.

I guess we still have "Babies," "Disco 2000" and "Common People" at least to go before the list's end. We might only have "He's on the Phone" left from St. Etienne, at least.

The Good Dr. Bill (Andrew Unterberger), Monday, 8 November 2004 21:26 (nineteen years ago) link

Hey Jelousy Top 50! Could we be so lucky!

danh (danh), Monday, 8 November 2004 21:29 (nineteen years ago) link

No, we really couldn't. I was hoping for 80s, 70s abs. tops.

The Good Dr. Bill (Andrew Unterberger), Monday, 8 November 2004 21:41 (nineteen years ago) link

Yeah, it's not happening.
