Starting to see a few films and TV series that aren't available to rent, only to stream.

It's weird when those pop up, but I've been seeing those all year. Some are TV shows that didn't get a home release, or movies on out-of-print DVDs, where it's pretty nice to at least have an option to watch again.

bear in mind the show can be really hit or miss, especially early on. i actually just watched the first half of the pilot that i never got around to seeing and wow it's not nearly as good as the second part with the date

Nhex, Saturday, 9 October 2010 18:46 (thirteen years ago) link

Herzog and Cage's masterful collaboration Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans is now up.

Paranormal Activity, which I watched last night and was pretty solid up until a slightly botched ending, but it did wig me out at like three in the morning when I halfway woke up as my bedroom door slammed.

Watching Doctor Who: The Ark In Space == yay. I do wonder how Better off Ted and Nip/Tuck showed up in my recently watched when I'd never watched anything prior to Who.

MUST WATCH: Intangible Asset No. 82
Great exploration of Korean music and of spirituality and performance.
amazing stuff

Brick Frog! (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 16 October 2010 02:53 (thirteen years ago) link

is there any site that lists their new additions by date? netflix.ca is worthless for this.

What is this shit.

Whoa, wrong thread. Sorry.

Princess TamTam, Sunday, 17 October 2010 13:21 (thirteen years ago) link

so the PS3 streaming app is pretty great! easier to use OS, options to turn on/off commentaries and subtitles and the wait time is like 1/4 of what I'm used to on the xbox. all in all, a massive improvement. This is really going to impact how often i use my 360.

Brick Frog! (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 19 October 2010 02:35 (thirteen years ago) link

sounds rad. i stream directly thru my blu ray player, would luv an option re: commentaries

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 19 October 2010 02:37 (thirteen years ago) link

The Secret Life of Plants with Stevie Wonder soundtrack; always wanted to see this.

Brick Frog! (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 20 October 2010 14:27 (thirteen years ago) link

bahahahahahaha one of the shittiest horror movies ive ever seen just popped up on streaming - the mind-bogglingly bad "Monster Dog" starring Alice Cooper!

farts vs. Rush in the world series of love (jjjusten), Wednesday, 20 October 2010 15:35 (thirteen years ago) link

also there is something really annoying about the fact that the streaming program on my shitty wii supports search while the xbox app does not.

farts vs. Rush in the world series of love (jjjusten), Wednesday, 20 October 2010 15:36 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh sweet, commentaries on the PS3? I'm in.

macaroni rascal (polyphonic), Wednesday, 20 October 2010 16:42 (thirteen years ago) link

i have like no special opinions on ps3. it seems like it's "play" or "stop". how do you get to these options?

antexit, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 16:45 (thirteen years ago) link

it's on the launch page for the individual film: where you see "play" "more episodes" "rate".
not every film has the audio option, but many do.
and i should point out that i have not SEEN a commentary track yet, i just read that they were including them.

Brick Frog! (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 20 October 2010 17:42 (thirteen years ago) link

even the addition of regular subtitles/closed captioning would be great, though what i'd really love would be Japanese audio tracks for anime

Nhex, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 18:50 (thirteen years ago) link

Did Netflix offer anyone else 2% credit for streaming problems? The amount is stupidly amusing to me.

Hmm, what is up with them lately - second time this month I've gotten that "we're sorry streaming service was interrupted, have some account credit" email

Nhex, Saturday, 23 October 2010 18:56 (thirteen years ago) link

maybe they're overloaded from the new PS3/Wii updates

Nhex, Saturday, 23 October 2010 18:56 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah, i didn't get to the end of more than a few of those.
just the Julia Child parts on Julie and Julia, jumped around through visions of suffering/life of plants/fritz the cat, just the first twenty minutes of Lexx

I heartily recommend the MST3K episode "The Wild Wild World of Batwoman" to everyone with Netflix

O'Donnell and the Brain (HI DERE), Monday, 25 October 2010 21:54 (thirteen years ago) link

I wish I could watch a non-MST3K version of it. I prefer to generate my own inane commentary.

macaroni rascal (polyphonic), Monday, 25 October 2010 22:21 (thirteen years ago) link

you really do NOT want to watch a non-MST3K version of this movie

O'Donnell and the Brain (HI DERE), Monday, 25 October 2010 22:22 (thirteen years ago) link

like, I can't imagine anything less fun

O'Donnell and the Brain (HI DERE), Monday, 25 October 2010 22:22 (thirteen years ago) link

well actually pounding spikes into your eyes would be less fun

some of these shovelware film descriptions kill me:
BRAZIL: 1944 - The plot is set in motion by authoress Nicky Henderson (Virginia Bruce), who has hit the best-seller charts with her latest tome, Why Marry a Latin?

The Saga of the Unkillable Mr. Poppins (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 26 October 2010 12:53 (thirteen years ago) link

CHASING THE KIDNEYSTONE: 1996 - When his grandfather comes down with a mysterious ailment, young Simon (Torbjörn T. Jensen) shrinks himself to miniscule size and embarks on an odyssey through the old man's body to seek and destroy the culprit: a nasty kidney stone. On his unusual expedition, Simon meets all sorts of curious characters, including a cute little blood cell and an irate bile duct. Vibeke Idsøe directs this inventive children's adventure.
