Re: the rights and wrongs of this, I think the mods have a responsibility to send the message that reposting people's own posts, 77 or otherwise, elsewhere for lolz is straight-up unacceptable. He knew it was dodgy, otherwise he wouldn't have registered a sock account for it. I've hung out with Grady and like him a lot but he should man up and take the ban IMO.

He's left ILX for like a year on end before and been perfectly happy without the boards in his life, I'm sure he'll be able to cope with a few week's absence.

what that explains is that the unknown anonymous poster gets tempbanned for a few days, and when they figure out who did it, they change that to 60 days?

No, the identity wasn't known until after the temp was changed to a perma. It was a case of one mod (me) temping the sock as an immediate measure, and other mods saying "nah, you know, this is totally permabannable. BTW, who is this sock?"

Within the first month, mods were moving 77 threads over to ILE to prove a point after a non-77er got mentioned. For me, that was the precedent that 77 was never going to be some sort of private vacuum.
